I started working on redecorating my bedroom a few weeks ago. Seeing all my belongings piled up made me realise I have too many things, and I don’t even use most of them. I love reading, but I have more books than space, and my art supplies are getting out of control. I realised I needed to find a way to declutter, and it needed to be an effective, long-lasting process. Michele’s book came to me at the right time.
The Holistic Guide to Decluttering focuses on the mental as well as the physical space; this was my favourite thing about the book. I’m one of those people who can’t focus (or sleep well) if the space around me feels cluttered or messy somehow. The book dedicates a significant amount of space to the idea of decluttering the mind, and how this links with decluttering the space around you too. Michelle offers tips on organising, planning and prioritising with neat illustrations and examples. I enjoyed reading this book, and I thought it was beautifully put together with a refreshing and clean design with crisp lines, gentle colour schemes and gorgeous photography.
The book did seem to be written with larger homes in mind, but I thought a lot of the advice could also be incorporated into smaller spaces. I was particularly interested in how I could declutter and reorganise my bedroom, and the guide went a long way in giving me ideas and inspiration.
