Christmas would not be the same without at least one offering from Jill Shalvis, and lucky us we get two in 2017, following on from Chasing Christmas Eve; Holiday Wishes gives us Sean O’Riley’s story.
Sean is Finn’s younger brother, the brother who no one has any expectations of, and expect nothing from. Finn being the elder brother always sorted everything out for him when he was younger, and has also spent the better part of his life since keeping him out of trouble.
"I’ve learned a whole lot since then."
But things change, and Sean wants to prove to Finn that he has grown up and capable of being responsible, by taking on the planning of the joint Bachelor/Bachelorette weekend in Charlotte Hartford’s B&B, and their first meeting after so many years, doesn’t exactly go how Sean expects it too.
"We’re not getting out of here and neither are you."
Mother Nature has other ideas though, and leaves Sean and the rest of the party trapped for more than the weekend they were planning to stay. But Sean is not going to let the weather spoil the wedding and looks to Lottie for help. But she has plans, which don’t include planning a wedding on the bounce, over her first Christmas off in years.
"Maybe you’re not the only one who grew up."
Sun, sea, and a sexy surfer to ease a little of the ‘stress’ she has been under was firmly on her agenda, so being trapped with the guy who took her virginity and then left her straight afterward, and helping him make his brother’s wedding go off without a hitch is really not something she wants to contemplate.
He was even more appealing than he’d been all those years ago.
It’s not a secret that I am a huge fan of this author, and this series has gone from strength to strength with each book added to it. While this was a relatively quick read, it was great to spend some more time with the Heartbreaker Bay crew over Christmas, and to see Sean, step up, man up and grown up in taking on the responsibility of making sure Pru and Finn got the wedding they deserved. The second-chance with Lottie, rounded things out nicely, and I cannot wait to get back to this series when we return for book five About That Kiss January 2018.
Holiday Wishes is another novella in the Heartbreaker Bay series, it can be read as a standalone but all the others are so damn good you’d be crazy to miss them.
This time it’s Sean’s story, a wild, sexy, rebel in his youth he is finally taking things seriously by accepting the role of best man and organising big brother Finn’s wedding to Pru.
The gang of friends who we have grown to love all head to a little B&B for the bachelor/ette party weekend. Unknown to Sean it’s owned and run by Lotti, the teenager he lost his virginity with ten years previously. Being the player that he was he left her stranded and in the process broke both their hearts.
The chemistry between them still sizzles but how can Lotti trust him again? This is such a scorcher of a story, Sean is just irresistible I fell for him at the start, Lotti has enough balls to make it entertaining.
This is such a short, quick but satisfying book .. read it, enjoy it and just wish you could be in that B&B! Five sparkly, festive stars yet again for this series.
All out favourite characters from the Heartbreaker Bay series are included in Holiday Wishes to celebrate thu upcoming marriage of Pru and Finn by way of a bachelor/bachelorette party in a quaint bed and breakfast in Napa Valley.
Shane shows a level maturity that is new to him from the very beginning of Holiday Wishes, wanting to show Finn how grateful for all the things he has done to help Sean. Although he never expected the mini-vacation to lead him to his first love and biggest regret, Lottie.
Sean and Lottie were best friends in high school until one night when they became more, however, Lottie was moving away and Sean's emotional issues stemming form the loss of his parents resulted in him cutting all contact with Lottie.
Lottie is a romantic at heart and suffered emotionally from the experience at such a young age, unfortunately, it has lead to some serious issues she carries with her into adulthood and affecting all of her romantic relationships as a result.
It is obvious that the chemistry between Sean and Lottie hasn't dimmed in the ten years they have been apart, they deserve the second chance they have been given even with the physical distance in their lives. There is more than physical chemistry between Lottie and Sean, they seem to understand each other in a way no-one else ever has.
Holiday Wishes is a short, cute, feel good story that brings a sense of continuity to the series as a whole. I loved seeing the progression of all of the characters within the series.
Although I felt as if Sean and Lottie's story has barely scratched the surface and hope to see a lot more of them included in the future.
I can't go without mentioning the amazing parrot that is included in Holiday Wishes ;)
