Review

"Paul's wit, intelligence, and beautiful view of the world are all contained in this terrific read, and I believe it will inspire many to think about the potential everyone's thumb has to take them places beyond the complacent." --"The Huffington Post"

""Hitchhiking with Larry David" is an engaging, witty romp from the first page to the last."
--"The Vineyard Gazette"

"His journeys, up and down South Road, from Edgartown to Aquinnah, are a search for healing, for figuring out how to be happy. The answers come from a variety of sources. This book resonates...HITCHHIKING is a layered book and it's also a funny book. Mr. Dolman offers us what he's learned about making all the pesky stuff-of-life things work. How -- dare we say it? -- to be happy."
--"The Martha's Vineyard Times"

"I should have picked him up... truly hysterical!"
--David McCullough, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner

"The book is hilariously funny and moving and something much more; it makes you think about your own interaction with the people around you, friends and strangers, and what wonderful opportunities you might be missing. I tried it one day, it works!"
--Carson Morton, "Stealing Mona Lisa"

"HITCHHIKING WITH LARRY DAVID often appears to fly off the shelves on its own accord. It's a fun, rollicking read that takes place here on Martha's Vineyard. Now, who wouldn't want to be on Martha's Vineyard, even by way of an excellent book?"
--Owner of Edgartown Books, Martha's Vineyard

"Endearing and funny." --"Martha's Vineyard Magazine"

"Light, summery memoir of a journey toward healing from a relationship gone slightly sour." --"Kirkus Reviews"

"Light, witty, brave and breezy, the perfect little book to stick in your beach bag this summer." "--"LifeGoesStrong.com ""

"Set on the beautiful backdrop of Martha's Vineyard, Mr. Dolman has woven a masterful tale of love, introspection, pizza, and brushes with celebrity that is not only a classic Vineyard experience but also a truly delightful read." The title of the book implies that the author is going to regale you with tales from his adventures with Larry David, but on this basis it's being mis-sold. LD features once near the beginning when he gives Paul Dolman a short ride, but it's not much of a story on which to base an entire book.

To sum up this book: Dolman spends a couple of months relaxing and thinking on Martha's Vineyard after splitting up from his girlfriend. He meets a few people, enjoys some hospitality and bumps into Larry David a few times. The End.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Book. The encounter with Larry David is only an excuse for the rest of the story, though. 3 Oct. 2013

As I stated in the title of the review, the book is Ok. The story is well told, it is entertaining, it has some deep thoughts well expressed by the author and a wonderful description of the landscape and characters at Matha's Vineyard. Nevertheless if you're expecting a funny story about the author and Larry David, I must say that their encounter is just a nice excuse to probably make you interested in the book. They actually met each other and it led to a curious serie of subsequent unexpected meetings that never last more than a few minutes so this is not the core story of the book. In this sense the book title is a little missleading since it creates, in my opinion, an expectation about Larry David that the reader will never meet. For that reason I've rated the book with 3 stars even though I found the author to be an appealing character with a nice style as storyteller.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title 10 Jun. 2015

I was disappointed with this book. I'm a Larry David fan so I was sucked in by the title and description. Little did I know the amount of involvement from Larry David in this book can fit on a page. The title and description is misleading. I got suckered on this one. There was nothing exciting about the authors life and if you're looking for a page turner, this isn't it.

I so enjoyed this book, the variety of characters and learning about Martha's Vineyard. Had to "wean " myself to two pages a day when I was close to the end because I did not want to let go of the magic . Luckily the author has written another book, Martha's Vineyard Miracles, an other true story. This Christmas I gave Hitchhiking with Larry David to six of my friends because I they kept hearing about how much I loved the book . It will make you laugh and you may find a lump in your throat, and tears in your eyes.

A refreshing way of telling a story of encounter and separation from different kind of people. Very inspiring and decorated again and again with a surprising turn of fate. Here we can see how each person can be a human being and can slip out of the assigned role; Paul meets people and opens horizons and reminds us how much we forget at times to see the mystic magic in everything... Funny but heartbreaking with unexpected surprises - that is how life flows when we open to it... Thank you for the moodlifting inspiring magical story... curious how it will continue...

I bought this book because I'm a Larry David fan and I was very disappointed. The story was okay but I felt the purpose of the title was only to sell copies. If you're a Seinfeld or Curb your Enthusiasm fan and are looking for a laugh look somewhere else.
