The DH24PC3 from Hitachi is a compact and powerful 3-mode SDS-Plus hammer drill with many advanced features. The high power 800W motor gives an impact energy of 3.2 Joules to drill up to 24mm in concrete with ease. Switch to hammer mode to remove tiles, chase grooves and more; the bit holder has a variable lock mechanism to allow a chisel to be set at the correct angle for the work. In rotary mode the DH24PC3 will drill up to 32mm in wood and, with the optional adapter, can even be used for driving screws and bolts.
The front handle is adjustable for convenience when working at any angle, and the soft elastomer grip on both the rear handle is and gear casing allows greater control when chiseling. The single action SDS-Plus bit holder makes fitting drill bits and chisels quick and easy. The DH24PC3 has an internal pressure adjustment mechanism which gives a more stable hammering action and minimises grease leakage.
At 351mm long, this is one of the most compact drills in its class. The DH24PC3 comes complete with a side handle, depth stop and moulded carrying case.

The sturdy case offers optimal protection, and occupies a slim footprint.
I have had other SDS drills and it is quite a hassle and messy to grease. As yet I have not greased this Hitatchi yet it is good as new. One thing I check for when buying drills is the chuck alignment. Most electrically powered drills have little to negligible misalignment, meaning a clean circular hole, and the Hitatchi falls in the negligible category... at least the one I have.
Many jobs can be done without engaging the hammer action, and as noted before, I would recommend using this setting unless you really need the hammer action.. It will extend the life of the drill itself, and gives a neater result. I have managed to drill through 2 feet of limestone with ease without the hammer selected.
At this price point it cannot really get much better. As with most products this item could be made in China, yet even certain Fluke multimeters, and most big brand names are. One must not forget that even though these units could be made in certain countries, they have to meet stringent quality control standards in order to be branded.

I would recommend the Hitachi DH24PC3 for the advanced hobbyist, who will not be using this drill 8 hours a day.
I cannot emphasize enough that extreme caution should be used with such high torque machinery. (Using side handle, as per instruction manual)
