As a member of the Mormon Church I knew a lot about Joseph Smith but this book written by him mother is an eyeopener and easy to read. Even if you are not a member of the Mormon Church this is a good read to see how people coped in times less affluent than now.

Joseph's mothers story gives us an insight into the struggle and sacrifice by so many to establish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this the last dispensation. Strengthened my testimony of the restored gospel and of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

It's not a great piece of literature but it is an honest account of one person's experience. It is interesting to read about Joseph Smith in the context of his family.
