An excellent, really remarkable textbook that explains the complex history of India in a simple, lucid, accessible way. It is clearly not for people with absolutely no knowledge of Indian history or for those who cannot process information unless it is provided as 'facts', which might explain the negative reviews so far. But I have used many of the textbooks on Indian history, written by well-known professional historians, that came out in sucession in the eraly 2000s and fidn this one exceptional in its ability to tell a very complex story in simple and clear language.
Heavy text and I am not a fan of the font or size, it made it that much more unbearable to read and therefore I am not critiquing Robb but the book. He did cover many topics, enough for my Intro to Modern South Asia course
I have read many books on the history of India. This history is written in a contorted, hard to understand manner. Does not hold the readers interest ( even one fascinated and well versed int he history of India).
