Product description

Product Description

In 2006 Road to the Orient (AVSA9856) was released by Alia Vox. This double album was a musical portrait of Francisco Javier and of his trip from Spain to Japan. On this occasion, Jordi Savall met Japanese musicians who soon became his friends and with whom he performed in many concerts around the world. Consequently, following the catastrophes in Japan, Jordi Savall decided to release this special tribute album in which the most significant pieces of the dialogues between Spain and Japan are gathered. A premiere in the history of CD packaging ! Included in the set: - a card miniature of a Japanese folding screen depicting the arrival of the first Europeans in Japan, card and book are shrink-wrapped together, CD sleeve is glued in the hardcover of the booklet. Format of the set : 145 x 190 x 5mm Format of the miniature folding screen (unfolded) : 435 x 190mm All profits will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross. A sticker will indicate the purpose of this release to consumers, which will also feature a picture of the unfolded screen.

This disc is a rare creature of ethereal beauty and once heard always kept close to one's heart. If this was the only Jordi Savall disc I owned I would be a lucky man. The Dialogues is a fitting tribute to all those who died in the Japanese sunami.

This work is also the product and profound scholarship and muscicianship - buy it - you will see what I mean

Satie: Piano Dreams

Istanbul: Dmitrie Cantemir: ""The Book of Science of Music"" and the Sephardic and Armenian Traditions

Interesting record but terrible sleeve holding the CD: just a flimsy paper envelope that ripped straight away.

it's a fascinating mixture of sound worlds, nicely packaged. Is there anywhere this team's curiosity and ability can't go? Wonderful stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Quality Music from Jordi Savall 7 May 2012
By rocknroll karen - Published on Amazon.com

As a lover of ancient music and especially the intermingling of cultures, I've found that you can never go wrong with anything involving Jordi Savall. Hispania & Japan - Dialogues brings to light that period of history of discovery when the mystery of Japan was opened up for a period of time by Portuguese missionaries in the middle 1500's. This CD explores that time and both cultures are given equal time. The music is unusual, but quite listenable. Jordi Savall keeps the instrumentation authentic to the time period, yet when he and his musicians perform, the past never felt so vibrant and relevant.

Like all Jordi Savall records, the Hispania & Japan - Dialogues are based on really professional researches. Great CD with a very interesting booklet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD. Uniquely absurd packaging. 15 Jan. 2017

A gorgeous recording. Great music, great performances, great sound quality.

The packaging is among the most irritating I have ever encountered. There's a booklet about 6" x 8", about the size of playbook-style program that you would receive at the symphony, with the CD in an interior envelope. Note that this does not fit on any shelf that you use for storing CDs. Or DVDs. Annoying. The booklet is wrapped in a card-stock wrap-around--I don't know what else to call it. It folds out to about 16" x 8", with lovely art. It appears to be a miniature reproduction of a 6 panel painted Japanese screen. OK, that's nice. But it doesn't even have a flap at the bottom to keep the booklet from falling out when you pick it up; the booklet is just held in by tape, until you open it. Sheesh.

I love it. The combination of styles and influences is a joy to the ears. I read of it in Listen, and I have not been disappointed.
