About the Author
Nikki Logan lives amongst a string of wetlands in Australia with her partner and a menagerie of animals. Her stories are full of romance in descriptive, natural environments. She believes the richness and danger of wild places perfectly mirror the passion and risk of falling in love. Nikki authored her first romance on a sabbatical from work. Determined to be published by forty, her first book hit shelves in February 2010, her fortieth year, and she hasn't looked back since.

Usually I am on the fence about time jumps but it really worked well in this novel, due to the nature of the story. I loved the way Oliver and Audrey tried to fight their feelings. Their back-and-forth dialogue was especially well written.
Full points for a book which avoids all the trappings of a run-of-the-mill contemporary romance.

GOOD READ! Well written, creative storyline with a few twists, unique presentation, complex characters, and a storyline which moves forward through intense and compelling thoughts and dialogue. HOWEVER, the wording can be repetitive, and the quick resolution of a troubled marriage seems rushed. Be aware that if you are looking for a typical romantic storyline you will be disappointed. The intimate moments in this story are not sexual, but an absorbing look at friendship, attraction, and marital infidelity, both physical adultery and the less obvious, infidelity of the heart.
THIS STORY revolves around three friends, Audrey, Blake and Oliver. They met years earlier, and although Audrey knows both she and Oliver value and trust in the sanctity of marriage, she ignores her simmering attraction to Oliver, and chooses to marry Blake.
As the story unfolds, Blake's infidelities and indifference towards Audrey is creating a serious breach between the friends. With Blake's blessing, Audrey and Oliver still meet once a year to catch up on their lives during an afternoon and evening of elegant dining, but now their time together is overshadowed by Blake's secret liaisons and by Oliver and Audrey's honorable behavior in the face of their increasing attraction to each other. When an accident results in Blake's death, rather than face their smoldering attraction without Blake between them, Audrey doesn't go. But the next year, when they meet once again, they acknowledge their attraction, share some painful truths, and try to discover if they can have a future together.
OVERALL, exceptional story about damaged relationships, forgiveness, and seizing second chances.
