This book is absolutely great (it's Julia Donaldson after all!!!) - with simple but vivid illustrations which are guaranteed to draw and hold toddlers attention. It's one of those books they ask for over and over again. I bought it for my daughter a couple of months ago and every time she picks it we read it at least 3 times. The text is short but nicely rhyming and illustrations are very funny and greatly appealing to babies and toddlers. "Lots of clothes - let's try them. Maybe we can buy them! Tiger tries a shirt. Leopard likes this skirt..." My 2.5 year daughter was joining in and lately reciting it in full in no time.

Fab book. My 2.5 year old loves these books and has the rest in the series... Goat goes to playgroup etc...
I find there are just enough words on the page to keep him interested and not too many that he gets board. I've found him in his bedroom reading these to himself (in a 2.5 year old fashion of course) highly recommend.

Storyline - A story about the animals (tiger, leopard, hippo, cat, camel, goat, toad, pig, zebra, duck, caterpillar, gorilla, flamingo and stag) going to the shop to get an item of clothing for a party.

Early Years Teachers - This book proved to be an invaluable resource on my teaching placements. As with this well respected and loved children's author, Julia Donaldson, this is a great book with a good story line. It is so versatile and can be enjoyed by many ages. It is really easy to engage with as there are so many possible themes in the story which can be explored to a suitable depth dependent on the children's ages.

Themes: animals, clothes, shopping, money.

Activity ideas:
- Children could look at all the patterns in the book.
- Children could make some clothes for the animals out of paper with lots of colours and patterns.
- Children could make a shop and price up all the items of the clothing.
- Children could look at where they animals come from and their habitats.

This was well received by our 2 year old who also loves Goat Goes to Playgroup. He is verging on being a little old for it, but his older brother is able to read it to him because the text is simple and we make it into a dressing up game which really brings the fun alive!

Yet another hit from Julia Donaldson! This book is simple in the written form, but the pictures are bright and lively - perfect for a little 2 year old. The toughened paper pages are great - tough enough to withstand enthusiastic page turning from inquisitive toddlers!
A recommended buy.

3-4 years old - used for a 'rhyming words' teaching points then discussion. Successful session :) ! By the time we got to the third page some of the pupils were correctly anticipating the rhymes and joining in enthusiastically with the reading.

My 19 month old daughter loves all the Julia Donaldson books. This one is very simple and short but she enjoys looking at all the animals and pointing to the clothes they are wearing. A great book for bedtime.

This is another excellent book from Julia Donaldson. The illustrations are lovely and my 2 year old has had lots of fun learning the names of the animals. She has read it so often she has learn the story by heart and likes to read it to me!

I would say the book is great to read to toddlers, but there is only 1 line of text per page. So children reaching school age would be better off with other Julia Donaldson stories, such as The Gruffalo and The Snail and the Whale, which have more content.

But Hippo Has a Hat is a great hit with my 2 year old!
