At times pop,at times jazz and manages to be mellow, energetic and powerful. Great instrumentation, particularily liked the use of harp on track 4. The new album from Horse is released on 1 October. Her voice has a range and power that is quite stunning. She uses this instrument to convey a whole range of emotion from the wistful introspective title track to the raunchy power packed "Guilty" or "Sea of love".
The brooding vastness of the ocean is used to illustrate, in "Ship to Shore", an unbearable sense of the power of love to rescue a soul in torment.
The overall tone of the album is of optimism and belief in the human spirit - whether the flirtatious "Blush" ( just thinking about you makes me blush! ) or the unique love for a child in "Starfish" ( she makes the shape and she smiles ).
This collection of excellent songs is given full support by the talented Paul Leonard-Morgan's arrangements - sweeping strings and sassy brass.
Those who are already fans of Horse need no convincing to rush out and buy this album. Those who do not know her work will surely not be disappointed by an album from a woman of enormous talent - musician, poet - with the balls to insist on doing it her way.
Do yourself two favours - one, buy the album and two - go see Horse live at the next opportunity!

This album is a move on for Horse from her first two pop albums with her band, in which she displayed the obvious vocal and songwriting talents that she shows here. Hindered by the misjudged promotions teams at her record company, who wrongly promoted her sexuality rather than her music, Horse has never reaped the trappings of success she deserves. The album is full of both wonderful pop songs and spine tingling ballads. In the track "Starfish", dedicated to her daughter, Horse brings tears to your eyes with the vivid lyrics and obvious love for her daughter. "Breathe Me" sees an update of an old classic from her first album, given a new twist which might not be welcomed by some of her fans, and "Kiss my Aspiration" is a two fingers to the members of the music industry who have hindered and knocked her rather than help her in her goal. She can look back and ask why and question what could have been done different, but then "Hindsight......its a wonderful thing"! In this case it is and its inspiring....go buy

wow - after being fed up with all these girl- and boygroups singing the charts up and down, I was so delighted to listen to an artist with its sensitive way of composing. Horse goes the right direction - This is a REAL trendsetter. This CD gives music a sense (again)!!! Especially the lyrics and harmonies combined with this instrumentation (strings, harp, piano, brass-section, soundloops etc.) and this strong and in the same time emotional voice which causes a "bone-vibration" (sorry, I am german), gives me the hope that there are composers and writers that know why music was "made" for. It doesn't matter if the song is fast, slow, happy or sad - it will touch you every time you listen to it. This album is intense in every way. After seeing many live performances of "HORSE" this album doesn't sound artificial at all compared to many other artists and their studio-albums. (Sorry, I don't want to insult any artist but due to my job I have listened to thousands of CDs in the last years and there are just a few that really impressed me.) To make a long review short: buy this CD now because it will be very hard for Horse to top this record by her next one ;-)

We've waited a long time for brand new material from Horse...IT IS a WONDERFUL THING!!!! Worth the wait - indeed. These songs are getting better on each listen. Horse's voice as strong, beautiful and emotive as ever. For all you old Horse fans out there - there is a new version of Breathe Me(originally on The Same Sky CD by Horse), this new version surpasses all expectations, as does the NEW songs.
If you want beauty, calm, emotion and classic songs then YOU WANT THIS CD.
Buy it - you won't regret it.

Horse's first solo studio album has been a long time coming, but every second has been worthwhile. This is seriously good music.
Horse McDonald has one of the greatest female voices around; it is rich, powerful, strong and full of emotion. She can sing beautifully in lots of different styles, from the acoustic "And Ever I'll Be Yours", where at one point tears can be heard in her voice, to the upbeat and very sexy "Sea of Love"; from the delightful and simple "Starfish", about her baby daughter, to "Ship to Shore", an epic piece that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
This album is superb. Horse's talents have been hidden for far too long. This album, if there is any justice in the world of music, is destined to win prize after prize. See for yourself! STUNNING.
