The brooding vastness of the ocean is used to illustrate, in "Ship to Shore", an unbearable sense of the power of love to rescue a soul in torment.
The overall tone of the album is of optimism and belief in the human spirit - whether the flirtatious "Blush" ( just thinking about you makes me blush! ) or the unique love for a child in "Starfish" ( she makes the shape and she smiles ).
This collection of excellent songs is given full support by the talented Paul Leonard-Morgan's arrangements - sweeping strings and sassy brass.
Those who are already fans of Horse need no convincing to rush out and buy this album. Those who do not know her work will surely not be disappointed by an album from a woman of enormous talent - musician, poet - with the balls to insist on doing it her way.
Do yourself two favours - one, buy the album and two - go see Horse live at the next opportunity!
If you want beauty, calm, emotion and classic songs then YOU WANT THIS CD.
Buy it - you won't regret it.
Horse McDonald has one of the greatest female voices around; it is rich, powerful, strong and full of emotion. She can sing beautifully in lots of different styles, from the acoustic "And Ever I'll Be Yours", where at one point tears can be heard in her voice, to the upbeat and very sexy "Sea of Love"; from the delightful and simple "Starfish", about her baby daughter, to "Ship to Shore", an epic piece that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
This album is superb. Horse's talents have been hidden for far too long. This album, if there is any justice in the world of music, is destined to win prize after prize. See for yourself! STUNNING.
