Having seen a TV transmission of this concert many, many years ago,I was keen to have a "proper" quality recording with quality sound for archive, thinking it would be a dedicated concert like all DVD's that I have bought. What I actually received was a copy of that very same concert I saw on the performance channel, complete with the Performance Channel logo on the screen. It was no better than my personal recording years ago.It was the concert, however,It wasn't the quality.

If I were lucky to have been at this concert, it would be one of the few times where I could walk out and say.....Now THAT was a great concert!

Next best thing to being at the live concert is this videotape of country greats/legends. What a grand event with legendary heroes - the immortal Johnny Cash, quivering voice of Waylon Jennings, the talented songwriting of Kris Kristofferson and of course the versatility of Willie Nelson.

In between the songs are short snippets of separate anecdotes the four share about each other. They have respect, love and admiration for one another. The music is superb, the audience receptive and the band a core of excellent musicians.

The concert offers a diverse array of music from Willie's jazzy and sultry "Nightlife" to the comedic "Boy Named Sue" and the spiritual "Why Me Lord".

Johnny Cash sings the patriotic "Ragged Old Flag" and Waylon does his classics- "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys", "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way", "Ain't No Good Chain Gang" and "Luckenbach, Texas".

Also included are the traveling tunes like "City of New Orleans" and "Highwayman". Johnny Cash sings his classics, "Ring of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues". The other three join him for a fantastic performance of "Big River". A perennial favorite is Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee".

On the softer side - Waylon's "Amanda" and the beautiful song "Always On My Mind". Willie does this one in his original classic way.

And there are the cowboys tunes, "Silver Stallion" "Last Cowboy Song". The four lend a voice to each other's songs. They are always on stage together.

Some songs I wasn't very familiar with like "Trouble Man", "Best of All Possible Worlds", "They Killed Him" and "Living Legend". But to hear them is an introduction to wonderful songwriting, something that country music lacks today. "On the Road Again" - what better way to end a show than with that catchy, fun road song.

The tape was shot at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum in 1990 and runs 98 minutes. There are 25 songs! So enjoy a great show that will never be duplicated again. .....Rizzo

HASH(0x91468714) out of 5 stars The Highwaymen VHS Edition 9 Oct. 2004
By Anthony G. Crombie - Published on
Sony is missing the boat. They need to get a DVD of this great concert out as soons as possible. Imagine 4 country legends at a concert in Long Island, NY (not a bastian of country) wowing

audience and viewer alike with warmth, charm, fellowship and some great music. Ok the sound is not great. The harmonies miss from time to time. But have 4 guys ever had so much fun that translated to the audience. Willie, Waylon and Mr. Cash have never looked or sounded better. Kris is in awe of his mates but

sounds up to the task. The crib notes i.e. off scene comments

are honest and believeable. This has become my most played concert. The more I play it the more I like it. Come on guys,

put this on DVD. Only 50% of the players are around. You owe them.

HASH(0x914687f8) out of 5 stars Outstanding Superstars-It doesn't get any better than this! 11 Jan. 2000

If you like any of the Highwaymen -- Slide the video into a ProLogic Surround Sound unit, preferrably with a larger screen TV -- then crank it up, sit back, relax -- then POW ! -- when the action starts you will think you are THERE ! We have been to many C-W concerts and none of them compare to this sensational video. We have played this video probably 60 or 70 times and it is still just as vivid, sharp and crystal clear as the first time we viewed it. Each entertainer is at his awesome best -- If I had to choose just one video that was a "have to buy" this would be it -- you will never be sorry -- Johnny, Willie, Kris & Waylon are all at their very best. Now if all the other video companies could only figure out that THIS IS THE WAY COUNTRY MUSIC SHOULD SOUND!

HASH(0x9146896c) out of 5 stars The greatest concert video. 2 Dec. 2002

I bought this VHS and watched it over and over. Never get bored from it. Great country musics/songs. Another video "Tribute Heros is great too. I hope so this video will come as DVD, higher quality and sound. Better to store. The sadness thing is we will never have Waylon's new songs. But his legend lives. This video is very remarkable.

HASH(0x91468ca8) out of 5 stars legendary performances from country musics original outlaws 5 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on
A riveting performance from country musics original core of "outlaws". A must see for any real country music connoiseur. It's been a long time since I've seen a performance of this caliber, and it will probably be a long time till anyone sees these four superstars perform together again. This video should be a "must see" for any of the new "pop country" stars!
