Jonathan has not yet earned his wings and will not be granted them until the Powers Above determine that he has fulfilled his mission on Earth. His first assignment is to help embittered ex-cop Mark Gordon (Victor French Little House On The Prairie). It s not long before Mark sees the light and accompanies Jonathan in carrying out his heavenly missions.

It's been a long time since i've watched this program, 15 years i'd say. One thing I can say is it's just like I remember, just as heart warming. Michael Landon stars as Jonathan Smith, an angel sent to earth to help those in need find their way. Not as preachy as it sounds believe me. Each episode is infused with a great story and a moral to accompany it.

It ran for 5 seasons, finishing in 1989 shortly after co-star Victor French who plays police officer Mark Gordon died of lung cancer. Most believed that Michael Landon decided to end the series after Victor French's death, but by the fifth season the ratings began to fall, and most agreed that the show had run it's course.

All good things must come to an end. Just enjoy the journey.

Many people will remember Michael Landon, from Bonanza ,and Little House On The Prairie. He's back in this series as an apprentice angel, who is trying to help people with their problems, and learn a bit more about compassion himself.I actually didn't watch the series when it was shown on tv in the eighties, and so this wasm all new to me. This Season One package comprises of seven discs , with twenty four episodes. The picture , and sound quality , are both excellent , and English subtitles are available. The stories are interesting , and varied , and although first shown in 1984, they don't seem too dated. The acting is good, and 'Highway To Heaven',stands up well against other series which feature angels helping people here on Earth, which appeared later like 'Touched By An Angel'. Also, I feel that 'Quantom leap',wouldn't be with us, if there had been no,'Highway To Heaven'.So this was somewhat of a trailblazing concept,as such.
I would thoroughly recommend,'Highway To Heaven',for all the family to view together - this is good family entertainment.

This Highway to Heaven Season One set is a real hit with my 18 year old daughter, and she has already bought the newly released Season Two and Season Three UK sets. Michael Landon's as likeable on-screen as ever, and the series seems well suited to secondary schoolkids & young adults who will appreciate its moral clarity. We got the set for my daughter, who likes it and other old TV programs & films like 'Bewitched', '7 Brides for 7 Brothers', and 'Calamity Jane'. My daughter's review of Highway to Heaven: "It's so sad, but it's so sweet, and the other bits made me laugh ... it's really good though." We thought the show has aged quite well, probably as none of the issues covered have gone away, its storylines weren't always predictable, and when required the series didn't pull its punches.

The series stars Michael Landon as Jonathan Smith, an Angel sent down to earth to do good and so win his wings. He soon finds a human companion soulmate in ex-cop Mark Gordon, played by Victor French, Landon's co-star from Little House on the Prairie. In a similar manner to 'Quantum leap', Jonathan and Mark are given missions by God (The Boss) to advise and help those in trouble overcome their problems and get back on track. It was filmed mostly in California, with the memorable Mark picking up Jonathan sequence set in Tucson, Arizona - the home of Bonanza, Landon's first major TV series break and one of my childhood faves.

This series is great, wholesome and mostly charming family entertainment.
The good guys win, the bad guys change heart or lose and it makes for terrific family viewing.
Do be aware though, that one or two of the episodes deal with very difficult issues and thus are a bit tough for younger children. However, there is a synopsis at the start of each, so you can decide which is appropriate for your family to see.
On the whole, there's plenty in this series to make the whole family feel good - real good!

Highway to Heaven was screened regionally on the ITV network across the UK. Depending on where you lived influenced whether you may have caught the series or not. Some areas screened it during peaktime on a weekday evening, whereas others screened it on a Sunday afternoon or a weekday afternoon.
Victor French and Michael Landon shine as the two main stars of the series who provide the backbone of the hours of feel-good stories within the boxset.
With an abundance of guest stars from the mid 1980s, the stories contained here really do show how TV has changed today, for the worse.
I never saw the series during it's original airing as I was too young and it seemed boring, although my mum loved it.
This discset is well worth purchasing and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching these stories, which are now nearly thirty years old!
Enjoy!

Being in my 50's I remember watching this series when it was first shown.

It of course will not appeal to everyone but I must admit I prefer the more professional camera work and lighting used in this era rather than modern programs where they change the camera angle every two seconds and don't use tripods.

Anyway, back to the DVD box-set.

For review, all I got was seven DVD's in paper wallets saying "Technicolor Poland, Check Disc Only" so I cannot guarantee if the finished box-set is the same picture quality or has different extras (6 x DVD9 and 1 x DVD5).

Anyway, the discs I received have a slightly below average picture quality for DVD's (when shown on a 46" TV) with some herringbone patterns in bright colours (many may not even notice, and on a smaller size TV the effect will be reduced).

Subtitle choice is English only and the only extras are just under 3 minutes of bloopers on the final disc.

Aspect ratio is correct at 4:3 for menus and episodes.
