two of them in it is not one of their best. Manon Lescaut is not one of the best loved Puccini operas and with
Kiri Te Kanawa recovering from the flu it is not her best. There is inaccuracy on the part of Puccini in the final
scenes where Manon and her lover are wandering in search of water in a desert outside New Orleans! There
is more water in that area than in a lot of other areas in the US and Puccini did not live in the 1500's or 1600's.
A better choice for an opera with the two of them in it at the Royal Opera House would have been Othello or
even Simon Boccanegra. They appeared in many operas there and surely one better than Manon could have
been found. The choice of Der Rosenkavalier was a good one. It is a light, comedy opera that has no one
dying or any wild operatic noises. It is beautiful music made by a great orchestra and some great singers some
of whom are still performing today whether in opera or recitals. Domingo is also very good in the Tales of
Hoffman. It is good, if you are a fan of opera to see some of opera's best performers on this DVD.
