This is book one in this two part series. I absolutely loved this story. I found it to be a gripping read and read it in one sitting.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald is a Senators wife. She has been brought up to value money over love. She's now stuck in a loveless marriage with a twat of a husband. When Alex is hired to be Elizabeth's bodyguard she starts to realise there's more to life than money.

The end of this book left me staring and muttering at my kindle. What a cliffhanger!! I'm really hoping we don't have to wait too long for book two. I loved it.

This is the first book in a two book series – Lies and Truth. There is a shock ending which will be resolved in the second book due out in June 2015.

Elizabeth has grown up with the mantra of marrying for money from her mother who, although loved and adored her father, she did not want a life of struggle for her daughter. As such Elizabeth is now a senator’s wife, surviving in a loveless marriage but keeping up the façade of being a dutiful and devoted wife to her husband, Cal Fitzgerald.

Hot on the presidency campaign trail, Cal has hired bodyguard Alex, to cover his wife. Little did he realise how deep that coverage would lead to.

Alex and Elizabeth find themselves fighting an irresistible pull towards each other. Elizabeth feels she can finally be her true self in his company and Alex finds the need to protect this woman in more ways than that of a bodyguard.

In some ways I really routed for Elizabeth with what she had to put up with, with her devious and downright deplorable husband. But in others I kept wishing she would find some strength and live her life for her that is until it is revealed why she needs to remain the dutiful wife. She was severely trapped in between the need to be free and herself and the need to support and protect others.

There was a little bit of steam and sauce between Alex and Elizabeth and it was a close line on the cheating field but when the reader is given the proof of Cal’s indiscretions, it was kind of acceptable for what went off. He was an absolute monster, I hated him!

The ending was a shocker and not even a HFN to soothe the poke in the eye that left me reeling with. Luckily we don’t have too long to wait for the conclusion. A well written and engaging read. Four stars.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books.

The blurb doesnt give much away, and I wasn't sure which genre this fell into before I started so I went in, not blind, just a little fuzzy. I mention this, because sometimes knowing which slot it fits into can squew my expectations, so I really had none here.

Elizabeth is a Senator's wife. She is existing within that marriage. Just existing. But she suffers in silence so her mum can get the expensive treatment she needs, since Cal pays for it. After a break in at their house, Cal employs a body guard for Elizabeth, ALex. After Cal decides to run for President, things get worse at home. But Elizabeth is fully aware she made her bed, now she must lay in it. Alex, however, makes her see things differently. And although they both fight it, the attraction is undeniable.

Okay, so, there I was, merrily reading away, not being able to see where this was gonna end, or HOW this was gonna end. OR rather, I could, but it kept switching things and making me not being able to see what I wanted to see and it kept me thinking...thinking...thinking....until I ran out of book! I was reading, and I could see this HEA coming at me, then...the epilogue blew it all out of the water! The entire book is written from Elizabeth's POV, and then you get the epilogue which is from Alex' POV. Just a tiny bit, 2 paragraphs. Normally, I'd say we needed to hear more from Alex, but not here. This here, this book, didn't need Alex to have his say until that point and it totally made me wanna through my kindle at the wall!

CLIFF HANGER, people, this book is a cliff hanger. You need to know this to save your device from a fate worse than death.

This was a good start to the series and a great way of being introduced to an author I haven’t read before. I was completely immersed from the beginning. I didn’t like Elizabeth and really struggled to connect with her. The way she listened to her mum when she was told to marry for money and not love seemed a bit immature to me. However when we found out about her mum’s MS I understood her a bit more and got why she stayed with him. I probably would have done the same. I thought Cal was a domineering ass! He is an old school sort of husband which annoyed the hell out of me. I was shouting at my kindle at some points. I adored Alex! He saw right through Elizabeth’s façade and gave her the strength she was denied by Cal. I really enjoyed reading this story. It’s full of twist and turns, suspense and most of all romance. It has one heck of a cliff hanger and it really does leave you wanting more.
