For those wanting a fix of Gerrard now that MCR have parted, this may be an ok album to get you by.
I however deem this a very sub par affair. I wasnt a huge fan of his previous band but they had a lot more going for them than this.
There is not one memorable track on it and it is already nearing consignment to the 'not likely to be played again' pile.
Daughter who is a massive MCR fan cannot stand it either.
Nothing to see here... please move along.

The old MCR stuff was great, they had reached a height of wide acceptance when they headlined Reading festival in 2011 and they could have carried on for years in a similar vain, with small tweaks as the band continued to mature and develop. Its a brave step to relinquish a successful formula and to re-invent yourself; but this latest period of Gerard Ways passion for music is equally awesome. There are some elements of the MCR days that you can still pick out, but these are subtle influences and they are probably more indicative of the musical style of Gerard Way as a singer than being MCR carry overs. His new found direction is both appealing and invigorating.

If you're looking for MCR here you won't find it. Gerard has very successfully reinvented himself as a sleezy, glam, indie, fuzz pedal using rock star. The album is magnificent and feels like a love letter to Bowie, Bolan and 90's Alt Rock so stop delaying and purchase!

As many have previously stated, if you're scavenging for any last remains of MCR, you'll only find scraps here, and those are mainly carried through Gerard's style. His debut solo album is simply phenomenal. He has changed his way of doing his music by going into the past of rock. Using fuzz and a whole load of distortion, it almost delves into the glam rock era.

So, anyone who wants to peer into the future of Way's music, look no further! Definitely worth buying, for its sheer awesomeness!

Glorious - 90's brit pop, 70's glam and 80's frivolity......I had ummed and ahhed over whether or not to get this album. I finally relented and boy did I make the right decision. From the opening track you realize that this is not a My Chemical Romance album. Fuzzy guitars, distortion and synthesizers. Action Cat (one of my favourites), No Shows, Brother and Millions show that Gerard understands 90's Brit pop. The songs bounce along with a wonderful grasp of melody and hook heavy sing-a-long choruses.

The album slightly diverts when Zero Zero and Juarez come on. Glam rock that Bowie and Bolan would be proud of that seems to somehow fit in perfectly.

He gets back on the Brit Pop train with Drugstore Perfume and Get The Gang Together and then launches into How It's Going to Be which is difficult to pigeonhole. It almost has a Abba feel to it with the close harmonies and strings.....but this is not a criticism. This song in particular has a glorious moment when (what sounds like) an electronic horn section soars above the pounding drums. For me it is one of the highlights of the album.

Gerard finishes it off with Maya the Psychic which is pretty much every Supergrass and Ash song ever created rolled into one.

If you are put off by the fact he is associated with My Chemical Romance please don't be....this is nothing like that music. It is wonderful on every track.

I love it when I give music a go......3 of my favorite albums have come from chance listens - Nirvana Bleach, Sugar Copper Blue and now Gerard Way's Hesitant Alien.

Really like this album, think it is a good development from My Chemical Romance and there are some very powerful songs on here. I don't give it five stars because I think Gerard has gone too far with the low-fi sound. His voice is way too low down in the mix and it just makes the sound a bit noisy. I think it could have been produced a bit better, would have liked it better.
