How can an album save your life i hear you ask.Well,(not to get to deep here)i was going through a lot of crap,as you do sometimes, and this album just seemed to jump out at me from the middle of my LP collection.Todd was going through some troubled times of his own-splitting up with his girlfriend bebe(liv tylers mum)and shutting himself away in upstate new york in a place called mink hollow(hence the title of the disc). What comes from this is an album that works on many layers; regret, passion, sorrow,DETERMINATION,maybe even redemption.I related to what todd was saying i guess.I still listen to it regularly and it will always be one of my favourites.

Back in May 2014 - Edsel of the UK began celebrating TODD RUNDGREN albums with ‘Deluxe Edition’ packaging upgrades – hardback book editions of key albums in his extensive back catalogue. The first three were "Something/Anything?" (a double-album from 1972), "A Wizard A True Star" (a single album from 1973) and "Todd" (another double from 1974). So here’s the next batch of three for September 2014 – "Runt" - his debut solo album from December 1970 on Ampex Records now extended into a double-CD edition with bonuses – "Initiation" from June 1975 (see review) and this - "Hermit Of Mink Hollow" from May 1978 on Bearsville Records – one of his most popular Seventies albums. Here are the people who can’t be friends…

UK released 9 September 2014 (16 September in the USA) - "Hermit of Mink Hollow: Deluxe Edition" by TODD RUNDGREN on Edsel EDSA 5033 (Barcode 740155503338) is a single-CD reissue of their February 2012 2CD set which combined "Healing" and "The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect" - only this time it's just the album straight in a case bound hardback book (35:48 minutes).

1. All The Children Sing
2. Can we Still Be Friends?
3. Hurting For You

The attached 12-page booklet within has liner notes by Paul Myers from his superb tome "A Wizard, A True Star – Todd Rundgren In The Studio" and is an excellent read. There's photos of Rundgren's house on Mink Hollow Road in Lake Hill where he built his Utopia studio and recorded the album.

I first heard this record many years ago, I had a copy on vinyl, or "LP" for the younger readers. I loved it then and had to buy the cd. This is a stupendous album, packed full of brilliant songs. Todd Rungdren came to my attention because of his connections with Sparks, so for that reason I had to check it out all those years ago. Released in 1978, this sounds as fresh today as it did back then. It sounds nothing like Sparks (who were always will be my first musical heroes)but is absolutely wonderful.I play it over and over again. I can`t recommend this highly enough.

I hadn't listened to this CD for at least two decades and was surprised at how modern Rundgren's 70ies songs still sound. At a time when New Wave prevailed he just followed his own course and produced this fine album.

I have been listening to this album for 28 years, ever since it was released, and it is still one of my favourites of all time, it's just a good, down to earth rock/pop album, give it a whirl.

Last decent album Todd made and its a gem. Beautifully crafted pop songs that I consider have stood the test of time well. Can we still be Friends, Fade Away, Hurting for You, You Cried Wolf, Lucky Guy, All the children sing are just wonderfully sublime. 29 years on it still sounds great.

Along with H P lovecraft and the P51 D Mustang this incomparable artist is just 0ne of a trio of fine things to emerge from the states and the finest advert for music the world has ever seen. The man is, an icon shame the media and radio choose to ignore him in favour of lesser talents such as Prince, Bowie, Springsteen,Sting (yawn)

....buy this one. This album includes all that's best in Todd Rundgren's style of music. The opening track 'All The Children Sing' will have you humming along in no time and the rest of the tracks mix the balladic with the rocky.
These days, Todd has had to do a 'Prince' - apparently he's known as TI-R - but this album is a testament to his versatility.
Just buy it.
