An experimental paradise...absolutely...this is how this Eric Copeland's (Black Dice) solo work Hermaphrodite should be described.
Taking a small break from the worldwide known band Black Dice, Eric Copeland found some time to record this jewel. Which is NOT a Black Dice B-side or an anonymous side project...it is a monolith in its genre...it's fresh, funky, crazy, and catchy...every tuner is a single different world and the listener will never be able to presume how the next track would sound.
The twelve tracks are all interesting, there are no bad track at all...tracks like La booly boo (an african carnival party ahah) or the crazy Scumpipe will give electroshock to your head...this album really surprised me...it's really hard to find some interesting and worthy material in the electronic-experimental music market in these days...this however is really a Must.

HASH(0x8fc4d96c) out of 5 stars grows on you 17 Mar. 2008
By ps181 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is probably my most listened album from 2007 and I still don't know why. Every song is simple, catchy and completely distorted. Not distorted like screaming white noise, just really complicated textures that sound wrong in a really good way. Kind of like when a cd player skips or someone gets feedback on a microphone and it sounds better than whatever was going on before. You can tell Copeland is in the Black Dice, but this record doesn't have as much tension as theirs usually do. It's just at home with the weirdness. Check out Tree Aliens or Spacehead if you want to decide to get this.
HASH(0x8f900be8) out of 5 stars An oddly shaped gem 21 Aug. 2009

Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Being a fan of black dice and animal collective, I found out about this album and looked it up. Since it was about $3 in new condition, and I felt like getting something different, I decided to purchase this. This album is very strange, I still don't know whats on the cover art. Eric's work here is similar to that of his main project/band black dice, except this seems less sporadic, more atmospheric, and contains more live instruments. It's very nice to mellow out to, even though some track are better (and noisier) then others. If you have a few dollars and you like black dice or similar artists I'd definitely recommend picking this up and discovering an entirely different, but mysteriously similar soundscape.
