Product description: When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter Annie (Toni Colette) and her husband (Gabriel Byrne) and their two children begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell. Extras: Featurette: The True Nature of Hereditary - 8 deleted scenes

I’ve seen a LOT of horror films over the years, but this one really gave me that gut wrenching feeling. It’s on par with, John Carpenter’s The Thing for me (my all time favourite film), it’s not the same type of film at all, but it had that same effect on me. Dread, basically.
This film reminded me of when I used to watch scary films as a child, when they could really effect you psychologically and actually scare you. Well, I’m an adult now but I felt that feeling coming back.
It’s shocking, suspenseful and seriously scary. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a decent horror.
