I purchased this altimeter as a present for my husband to use in the car in the UK. He found it unsuitable and comments -'Its range is 0-5,000 metres. Only the three highest mountain passes in the UK exceed 2,000ft =610 metres in altitude (with a maximum of 815 metres) and there are about 100 mountain roads in the UK where the maximum altitude is between 1,500ft (450 metres) and 2,000 ft. However the majority of the roads in the UK are at an altitude of less than 300 metres. The maximum movement of the altimeter needle on this scale is roughly the equivalent of between 12-o-clock and 1-o-clock on a clock face and the rest of the scale is unusable for a car altimeter in the UK. It is therefore genarally unsuitable as a car altimeter for UK use.
A UK altimeter needs to be on a scale from 0-1000 metres, and even that considerably exceeds the highest road in the UK, but there would at least be some movement of the scale in ordinary driving, whereas one would be hard pushed to detect any movement on this altimeter, which is best suited for driving in the higher areas of Europe such as near the Alps and Pyrenees where roads do climb up and down several thousand metres'.

Nice design but not that accurate. Expensive for what it is.
Good idea fore removable base. Difficult to guage the height markings
