About the Author

Award-winning author Karen Rose Smith was born in Pennsylvania. Although she was an only child, she remembers the bonds of an extended family. Since her father came from a family of ten and her mother, a family of seven, there were always aunts, uncles and cousins visiting on weekends. Family is a strong theme in her books and she suspects her childhood memories are the reason. In college, Karen began writing poetry and also met her husband to be. They both began married life as teachers, but when their son was born, Karen decided to try her hand at a home-decorating business. She returned to teaching for a while but changes in her life led her to writing romance fiction. Now she writes romances and mysteries full time. She has sold over 80 novels since 1991. Presently, she is hard at work on expanding her Search For Love and Forever Love e-book series. She is also working on a series for Harlequin Special Edition as well as the Caprice De Luca home stager mystery series for Kensington Books. When she isn't writing, she cares for three rescue cats, gardens, and cooks. Married to her college sweetheart since 1971, believing in the power of love and commitment, she envisions herself writing relationship novels, both romance and mystery, for a long time to come!

All of this series was an emotional journey, and I have to say, this book 7 is a great conclusion from the author Karen Rose Smith.

I've been on this journey since book 1. Its been revealing, emotive, shown me how a family can become so damaged, pulling together in this story didn't happen and the split came almost immediantely as each individual struggled with the kidnap.

I just loved it. I would highly recommend this series, you will be so moved by it.

I loved this book. Tears were in my eyes at the end, and I didn't want it to end. I wanted to know more, read more. But the author's talent is such that she had already foretold what would happen next, and how it would all unfold for those affected. A very well paced, well written story. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Read! 18 Feb. 2013
By Donna F. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
HER SISTER includes Karen Rose Smith's trademark emotional romantic elements, but this is so much more than a romance. When Clare was only five, her little sister was abducted, and her family was changed forever. A mother now herself, Clare isn't prepared for the possibility of finding her lost sister after all these years or for her own teenage daughter's rebellion.

This is a book about a family that's been broken and how they must put the pieces back together again. It's a wonderful addition to the Search For Love series.( And readers of the series will recognize Gillian from earlier books, too.) Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Numerous intensely emotional predicaments 17 Feb. 2013
By A. Richard - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
How an incident can either bring a family closer or completely destroy their home life is at the heart of the seventh book in the Search For Love series by the always talented Karen Rose Smith. Three generations of women go through traumatic situations at different times, and the choices they make in an instant can have lasting effects on a number of lives for years to come.

After the younger sister of Clare Thaddeus was taken from their home and did not ever return, her life was never the same. Her parents eventually got a divorce, and she was rather unruly during her teenage years. Now a single mother with a defiant sixteen-year-old daughter, Clare wishes for more harmony in her life but sadly does not believe things will change anytime soon.

When word is received that a lead has surfaced and her missing sister could perhaps be living in another city, Clare wonders how this will affect not only her parents but her own life as well. Each family member handles this shocking disclosure in a different way. The lack of communication puts much distance between them, and Clare can only hope they will find a way to support each other as they get more facts.

Regardless of the storyline, Karen Rose Smith constantly delves into the lives of her characters and concentrates on their feelings. Although there may be plenty of stressful predicaments and sometimes a positive outcome seems doubtful, Ms. Smith manages to offer a glimmer of hope in often creative ways. HER SISTER is filled with family drama, and the emotional behavior of the characters is realistically depicted time and again. The members of the Thaddeus family have definitely had more than their share of challenging events that required them to make exceedingly crucial decisions on several occasions. What these people had to go through is a genuine nightmare, and how they responded to the situation gives insight into their inner personalities. When other problems arise later in their lives, the past continues to have a hold on them and strongly affects any current reactions. While I did not always agree with each response made some of these individuals, it did make them come across as more convincing as everyone makes a bad choices, especially when facing nerve-racking circumstances. What motivates the actions of the three main women in HER SISTER are often described with very emotional details, and my own heart frequently ached for the reasoning behind their feelings. There are plenty of outbursts overflowing with a myriad of sentiments, and these conversations left me feeling their joy, pain or even confusion. Clare, Amanda and Shara get to experience much of what life has to offer, and Ms. Smith certainly gives them an abundance of obstacles to prevail over. The men in their lives greatly influence what these women ultimately decide to do, and every scene with them is very true-to-life. Several characters from previous books in the Search For Love series are featured, and their contributions are very important. HER SISTER is emotionally satisfying with realistic personal relationships plus believable situations where romance and mystery entwine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Such a disappointment 25 Oct. 2013
By Marianna - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I have read all Karen Rose Smith's "Search for Love" Series - this is book number 7. The first six books had a story; a beginning, a middle and an ending. Most, if not all, had an epilogue to tidy everything up. "Her Sister" did not have this.

The basics of the story are all there, but it's like two books crammed into one. This means that we are left with too many questions at the end. There are two distinct storylines runnning on parallel lines. Yes, most of the characters are involved in both stories, but it just didn't work.

What happens with Joe? Or the baby? And what about Amy & Beth? Definitely not an ending. And a sequel would have too many repetitions. A total disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Never Give Up 3 Aug. 2013
By Shelly Itkin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Ms. Smith writes a very emotional and loving story of a family torn apart by a tragedy that happened twenty-seven years ago and now they have some new major issues to deal with. Her characters are real and you feel like you are drawn into the problems and want to help them solve them. You will keep hoping happiness will finally make this family whole again.

When Clare was five years old her little sister Lynie was abducted and from that day on all of the families lives will be changed forever.

As Clare was growing older she felt felt like her mom, Amanda and her dad, Max were always preoccupied with trying to find Lynie and become a happy family again. The problem is that as Clare got older she started acting out and found herself unexpectedly pregnant and becomes a very young mother to a daughter named Shara.

Clare is trying to make it on her own bringing up a sixteen year old which could be a challenge in itself but doing it as a single mom is not easy. Shara is always testing the boundaries and
Clare really does not have the closeness with her mom or dad that might help her thru her daily struggles to bring up her daughter.

A terrible event occurs and it is one that is going to bring Clare, and both her parents together along with her neighbor Joe who proves now more then ever that he has always been their for her but she just was afraid of getting involved.

3.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, emotional and heartwarming story 3 April 2013
By The Romance Reviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
HER SISTER is quite the departure from the Karen Rose Smith books I'm used to. Heavy with the suspense and drama with some romance mixed in, HER SISTER takes an in depth look at a family that tries to keep it together after faced with unspeakable tragedy. And even though it wasn't the type of romance I'm used to, there's no denying that it's a Karen Rose Smith story because underneath all the turmoil is the feeling that love can make good things happen. In my opinion, that's a Karen Rose Smith hallmark.

Clare has never recovered from the disappearance of her younger sister twenty-seven years ago when Clare was five years old, and neither have her parents. Now an adult, Clare has a family of her own that consists of her sixteen-year-old daughter and her now divorced parents. She's made a life for herself and her daughter but when Clare's daughter, Shara, starts acting out and finds herself in trouble, Shara decides to run away instead of telling her mother what's going on.

Faced with another loved one disappearing on her, Clare tries desperately to find her daughter. But she also finds solace in her neighbor Joe who would like to be more than just neighbors.

While everyone is frantically trying to find Shara, Clare and her parents discover that the past they've tried to move on from may be what holds them all together.

I wasn't sure what to expect from HER SISTER since I had advanced warning that it wasn't a straight romance novel. But I will say that this book, which is the seventh installment of the Search for Love series, was a pleasant surprise. It was filled with suspense and a little mystery with a little smattering of romance mixed it. But what kept me reading was the investment that I made in the Thaddeus family--Clare, her mother and father, and her daughter. They were all affected in different ways by the tragic events surrounding Clare's sister's kidnapping. It was amazing how a twenty-seven-year old event shaped the events in the present.

I was happy to see that everyone had the potential to have a happy ever after even though all of the events in the story weren't completely tied up in a bow for us by the end. I certainly wouldn't be averse to visiting with this family again if Karen Rose Smith would like to write more about them. (*hint, hint*)

Overall, I thought that HER SISTER was one of those stories that would warm the heart and make you want to give a tight hug to those you love.
