From the Back Cover

After a stalker goes too far, Hannah Hilty and her family are forced to leave the Amish community where she grew up. Now they're getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky. But Hannah has become afraid of trusting anyone--even Isaac Troyer, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the easygoing woman she once was.

For Isaac, the beautiful girl he teasingly called "The Recluse" confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God's gifts and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there's always more to someone than meets the eye.

Her Secret by Shelley Shepard Gray is an Amish romantic mystery and I really enjoyed it. It is the first book of The Amish Of Hart County which promises to be a cracking series.
Her Secret has many themes including that of secrets. Secrets are never a good idea. They may become burdensome. Secrets need to be brought out into the light and burdens shared. "Even if the truth hurt, it was always better in the end."
There is the topic of anxiety. Anxiety can ruin our lives. Anxiety can trap us into a prison of our own making. Anxiety links to worry. "It ain't a good idea to go around worrying about the future." God tells us to worry about nothing and to pray about everything. Fear is the opposite of faith. "Faith is believing when you don't have proof." Faith is handing our fears over to the One who has conquered death.
The novel has the theme of friendship and families. The Amish are a close knit group, warm and welcoming. The reader 'feels' this warmth reaching out from the pages of the novel.
The book has a mystery to be solved. The reader gets caught up in the action. There is an air of menace as the mystery involves stalking. Shelley Shepard Gray manages to capture this air and convey it to the reader who finds themselves becoming anxious on behalf of the characters.
Within the novel, the characters are all wonderfully drawn. The reader is able to empathise with the characters who burst into life within the book and into the reader's heart.
A wonderful start to a new series. I cannot wait for more.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that has it all, drama, romance, suspense & action! 10 April 2017

Her Secret is a book that completely draws you into the story from page one. Hannah Hilty is a young lady in an Amish community that is being stalked by an Englisher. When this Englisher becomes more brazen and sends her pictures of her when she is dressing for bed, she and her family move to a community in Kentucky called Hart County. Due to the trauma that Hannah has faced, she keeps to herself and that earns her a nickname, the Recluse. She also has to deal with the frustration her teenage sibling feel about having to leave their home and their friends.

Isaac Troyer has seen Hannah around the community and considers her to be true to her nickname, but when he meets her and sees her beauty and then later learns the trauma she has suffered, he changes his opinion. He befriends her and introduces her to members of the community and begins to feel protective of her. Hannah begins to relax and become a part of Hart County. She gets involved with a fundraiser and begins to develop feelings for Isaac. Hannah's siblings also begin to feel bad about the frustration that have shown Hannah, and begin to support her and as a result those relationships become stronger. They are completely caught off guard when they learn their father didn't just move to Hart County to escape Hannah's stalker, he has his own reasons for moving. Those reasons shake the foundation of the family.

Just as Hannah and Isaac begin to relax and form a solid relationship, Hannah's stalker finds her. The difference this time is Hannah does not have to face him alone. She has Isaac and her siblings to help her. They decide this time not to allow Hannah to play the victim and get the Sheriff involved. Even with all of that support, the stalker continues to victimize Hannah. Isaac begins to question whether he can protect her and if he is the man for Hannah. When things take a dangerous turn, Isaac faces the truth about his feelings for Hannah and the community pulls together to help her.

Her Secret is about a family where there are secrets everywhere. It seems most members of the Hilty family have a secret. When all of those secrets come out, the healing begins. The ending of Her Secret was so fulfilling as well. It is beautifully written and features all the element to be a best seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read 11 April 2017

Great read! I really liked how it was different from the usual Amish romance in that it is suspenseful, moved along at a good pace, and wasn't full of "does s//he like me". I'm looking forward to the next book which is pre-ordered here on Amazon (of course!).

Amish plus mystery all tied up in a wonderful book. It was hard to put it down. I fell in love with the characters who seemed so real. I felt like part of their family. The Inspirational thread and the great writing also helped to make this a fantastic read. I can't wait to read her next book in this series when it is released.
