Strong, captivating characters fill this novel with the type of people that you want to get up close & personal with. The larger than life main characters wiggled their way into my heart through their various trials and difficulties. I enjoyed seeing them try to fix what they could in the lives around them with little to no worries about themselves. Their second chance together, although not what one would expect, was a fantastic exploration into who they really are.
As a whole, this was an enjoyable novel that kept me on my toes. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters and had a blast with their stories.

This delightful love story, set in the old farms and communities settled by Icelandic immigrants to Manitoba, charms as it tantalizes. The author skillfully moves from rural prairie scenes, to flashbacks of war-torn horrors, and to the glamour of Paris. Highly recommended.
Ten years ago, Analise left her small town and became a world-wandering photographer. Upon her return to comfort and support her recently widowed grandfather, she meets again with Erik, for whom she'd fallen as a girl. When he asks her to pose as his fiancée to keep his mother and grandmother off his back, she agrees, if reluctantly.
If Erik were to have his way, there'd be nothing fake about the engagement. Whenever he and Analise touch, there's a conflagration even she can't deny, but something's holding her back. Until Erik learns what it is he fears they'll never see beyond the past and the present and reach out together for what the future might bring.
She's a strong, brave heroine who is dealt more life-altering blows than one woman should have to deal with, and yet she makes it through even stronger. Erik is Mr. Perfect, because even when he sets out to ruin the man responsible for his sister's death, his struggles with his conscience are so heart-wrenching. He's just what she needs to learn to trust in love. She's just what he needs to learn to put the past to rest.
This is a great book. Enjoy the journey.

What a fun, sweet story (with a bit of spice!)with just enough twists and turns to keep me turning the pages. The characters were well-developed with great back stories (that I'd love to read more about, hint, hint). It was interesting to read about Manitoba and the Icelandic culture of the character's families. I look forward to more stories from Alexia Adams!
