This is an elegantly illustrated book about the use of images to reflect how Henry saw himself and how he wanted others to see him. It’s an adjunct to Tudor studies rather than a complete picture book to go along with your favorite biography. You won’t find portraits of the wives, except for Jane Seymour, or any notable figure during the reign except for Francis I. Edward VI and Elizabeth are shown, but not Mary (except as part of a group picture). Still, it’s a book well worth investigating.
P.S. Be sure to look for the crucifixion and hanging in the sketch of the Siege of Boulogne!
