Not quite finished the book yet but seeing as it's a series of short 'tales' I can already say that the first few are a fascinating read and insight into Scottish Sports Journalism. Also, a fab price and sales going to an excellent cause (SANDS charity), will definitely be buying a few more as Xmas pressie's for male relatives and friends!!

Have just finished reading this fantastic book about Scottish football after being unable to put it down from the moment I started. The book consists of 72 individual stories, each written by a different journalist, documenting all of the joy, despair and absurdities that you would associate with following Scottish football over the last 50 years or so. The book gives a marvellous insight as to what it is like to be reporting from the press box on a game they clearly love, and provides tales of all the colourful characters that they have had to deal with over the years.

The fact that all of the proceeds of this book go to the SANDS charity means that I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's a great read, and will appeal across all age groups to anyone who has ever had the slightest bit of interest in Scottish football.

Enjoyed greatly these unpublished snippets from Scots sport journalists. Some are very short. But all give a new angle, a new look at the game and those involved in it north of the border. The opening piece from Tom English - regarding the gargantuan ego of a let's say very average Rangers footballer in comparison with the modesty and decency of an American Heavyweight Boxing champion - is precious.

Really enjoyed this book.
At last some honest journalistic accounts where nobody really has to mind their P's and Q's!
This book is a must for any sports fan or must be bought for any sibling or realtive of a sports fan!
Profits all go to a very very good cause - Sands charity!
I suggest you drop what you are doing this instant and buy this book for you, your partner or anyone interested in sport!

Great book with a lot excellent writing. My only quibble is with regard to the football coverage. There is too much OF coverage and not enough articles about other teams. Maybe this highlights a flaw in the small scottish media sports coverage as they are mainly Glasgow based. But surely they can expand their horizons a bit. The articles involving other teams were Imho the better ones. But overall a good read!

A friend at work recommended this book to me as its for a very good cause (SANDS) and it didn't disappoint. The opening chapter by Tom English of The Scotsman is brilliant and sets a standard of writing that the book mostly lives up to. It's a really easy book to read as its divided into 72 chapters of three to four pages each and would make a great Xmas stocking filler for any sports fans.
4 stars but 5 for a wonderful cause!!

I really enjoyed this book, some excellent insights into some of the characters of Scottish football and life as a football journalist. Struck by the genuine love of the game and love of the job of so many great journos....and all for a fantastic cause.
