An Exciting, Thoughtful Adventure

Eleven-year-old Henrietta H. House has to hide from her mother in the shed with her little Scotty-dog. Afraid of her mother and the coven of witches her mother is a part of, Henrietta must often fend for herself, facing not only danger at home but the cruelty of some classmates. The dedication by the author reads, "For...those youthful readers who struggle with problems bigger than most of us can comprehend....May this story aid each one to escape sometimes harsh realities and to contact their own inner strengths, just as the main character does in this story." That's exactly what the book is about--overcoming, facing fears, and finding a place within humanity's circle. I love Henrietta's struggles and triumphs. I love the characters that help and hinder Henrietta along her journey. The story is full of hard situations but hope and lightheartedness as well. Thought-provoking for children and adults.
