Follows sound psychological basis in Rogerian and CBT methods. I have been on both sides of this equation, as a professional helping children and their parents with anxiety issues, and myself as a parent of a child with anxiety. Compliments the work of Lucy Willets at the Berkshire Child Anxiety Clinic at the University of Reading (my child attended), but in a more staightforward way, and with child-friendly reproduceable activities. Also compliments the 'How To Talk so Kids Will Listen' approach (Rogers through Ginott). Helps parents to reflect on their own issues, and whether/how they are passing these on to their children; as well as looking at how they are interacting and supporting their child(ren). Would give 4 1/2 stars, but not possible.

This is a really useful resource book. It has a good section explaining the theories. There are lots of imaginative activities which could be used by parents, carers or professionals, An excellent buy!

This book has some good ideas and sound approaches to unravelling situations with stress and anxiety in children. However, the photocopiable pages mostly ask children to draw what they feel, which in my experience they don't want to do, preferring to use puppets or small lego men to act out scenes instead. It is not a book for an experienced person working in this field but may inspire those starting out in this field, such as Newly Qualified Teachers..

This book was easy to read and very practical. I work with children with Complex Needs and Challenging Behaviour and the idea of the basic need for all human beings to have a secure, safe and contained environment is at the heart of a lot of what drives behaviour. This can be adapted to use with children of all ages and adults. The photo copyable pages were great and could be put together with a young person to make a book about me or a profile.
