Classic Charlie and Lola. I am 38 years old and I laugh every time I see Caspers wonky hat!!!! These books are fab and my 2 year old daughter loves them too. I read this about 200 time in a 10 day holiday. To my daughter might I add, not to myself, just in case you were wondering!!!!

Fans of Aesop's fables will detect more than a hint of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' in this short tale. Charlie and Lola are looking after Granny and Grandpa's cat, Caspar, and Lola's imagination is running wild. She imagines that she and Lotta are being stalked by tigers, and cries out for help. Charlie and Marv come to the rescue, only to find that there's nothing wrong. So when Caspar gets stuck up a tree, Charlie is reluctant to come running again.

Parents be warned - it's not a Lauren Child original, but a re-working of one of the scripts from the TV series. This seems to have lead to some rather monotonous writing - lots of 'Lola says', 'Lotta said' - which loses some of the immediacy of the story. The illustrations are also kept separate from the text, which some adults might prefer, but I find it makes the presentation a bit boring.

This said, my two-year-old daughter is a great fan of Charlie and Lola and has enjoyed this story a lot. If I do get bored with reading it, we can always turn to the televised version from time to time!

The material for Charlie and Lola appears to be running a bit thin...This is a morality tale on the perils of calling for help when none is required. Not quite as blood thirsty as 'The Boy and the Wolf' but there is a hairy moment for the kitten. Of course, Charlie & Lola (like Disney) don't really do horror, so everything works out alright in the end - but don't expect to want to read this one night after night in the bedtime routine - you'll be slumbering long before your babes.
