We might only be a matter of months into 2014, but this little gem is truly my favourite release of the year. A labour of love for the artists concerned, this project has been nurtured over a good couple of years and their efforts are clearly on show. Unlike many albums of late, this does not reflect the gloss and spit and polish by other artists. This is foot stomping, clap your hands and dance away on the floor. Pure, unadulterated fun.
Despite not being a swing fan myself before, nevertheless this has a certain quality that grabs your attention and you can't help but get caught up in the beat. For me, there was something magical about this album from album standout "Shut Up and Dance" to the more sultry "Jeremy Kyle". Beginning with "All About Me", the track purrs along with a nice little rhythm and a really infectious chorus, the album opens up with the catchiest of tunes. "Shake It Out" ramps up the speed and album favourite "Don't Touch The Kitten" is a slow, sexy number, full of little electro sounds and horn/trumpets over the chorus. Scarlett Quinn as lead singer lends a smooth quality to the track and her vocals throughout the entire album, in fact, are strong and clear with an impressive range.
I won't spoil the entire album, you have to listen for yourself - needless to say, I loved it and this definitely goes on repeat in my car to drive to!
Congrats Kitten And The Hip, it's a remarkable album and it deserves great success!
A superb effort from Kitten And The Hip - I hope that others enjoy it too!
Scarlet Quinn is Kitten. A fresh voice sparkling and soaring over killer grooves. Lush harmonies abound. Ashley Slater is the Hip: the Frasier Crane of Electro Swing - bald, bold, urbane, sophisticated. The voice of Norman Cook's Freakpower hit, 'Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out.' Ex Gil Evans and Loose Tubes. Mellow, soulful vocals, brash bone, intriguing production throughout.
Already a great live band with some entertaining and stylish videos this CD is upbeat, uplifting, right UP where you need to be.
I defy anybody to sit still whilst listening to this. It has it all...Swing, Jazz, Reggae, Blues, Soul, Hip Hop, Funk, Pop...basically think of a genre and it's in there! AND it works!! Awesome listen, and don't think I'll ever get tired of it. From Kittens ever changing vocal range to the legend that is "The Hip" and his deft brass instruments overlapping his and Kittens dulcet tones. If you get the chance, see them live. Just amazing!
My Kitten and the Hip cd lives in the car at the moment and on whilst driving. Such an infectious album full of Groovy melodies & Hot trombone licks. Kitten(Scarlett Quinn) has such a powerful voice and I like the Hip(Ashley Slater) Scatting .Above all the songs combine lots of humour with the ability to make you wanna dance ya ass off l
Discovered this group by complete accident on Sound Cloud one day & was immediately hooked. From start to finish it's a fantastic, toe tapping album filled with excellent songs & a great disco swing vibe. Scarlett Quinn has an amazing voice that suits this style of music perfectly & I can't recommend this album highly enough.
Love this album. The tunes on it are so original and catchy. 'The Hip' used to be the lead singer of Freak Power ('Turn on, Tune in Cop out') and if you like that you will love this. These guys deserve a much bigger and broader audience.
