I felt very sad when I finished reading this book. Mostly because I didn't want it to end, I couldn't put it down and also because while reading it, it is like Larry Hagman is speaking to you through his words.

As a child, I enjoyed watching Larry in "I dream of Jeannie" and then when I was 9, I was aware of Dallas and JR's part in it and wanted to watch it but wasn't always allowed to, probably being too young of course! I was gripped by the mystery surrounding the shooting of JR at the time, like many others. During a period of unemployment a couple of years ago, I watched every single episode of Dallas and movies that related to it, as I wanted to watch it with adult eyes and not miss anything. It was amazing of course, very ahead of its time with its themes and the early days were great. Larry Hagman excelled in the role of JR, even though he was clearly nothing like him in real life, which is a testament to his acting skills and ability.

This autobiography is moving, personal, witty, informative and thoroughly enjoyable to experience. It's well-written, to the point and is charming to read, charming like Larry himself. As well as being about himself, he mentions his wife, Maj, a lot in the book and it's lovely to hear about how they have been together through thick and thin for so many years. It must be so difficult for her and his children now with him being gone.

I wish I had read this book while Larry was alive, in a sense, he is alive through his book - he's had a heck of an interesting life and nobody can take that away!

I'd almost given up trying to get this book with many failed attempts by high street stores until I spotted it on Amazon. In fairness I ordered it back in February and its taken several months to arrive. Was it worth the wait?. Absolutely, I have very much enjoyed the book and fully recommend it.

A well deserved 5 star rating for both Amazon and the authors.

I bought this book as a present for my husband but ended up reading it first! Like most people my age I was raised with Dallas - I can remember when all I wanted from life was a "Who shot J.R" mug! I have to admit that this book was a slight disapointment. I patiently read through all the begining stuff, leading on to various small parts in plays and TV programmes. I finally got to the "I Dream of Jeannie" and just when I thought he would never get there, Larry finally starts talking about Dallas. By this stage however most of the book is over and I realise to my great disapointment that there only are about 2 chapters dedicated to his life as a Dallas star.
Don't get me wrong, the rest of Larry's life is all well and good and made an enjoyable read but, for me and others who are too young to really remember the pre Dallas years, it's not really what you would expect.
For true Larry Hagman fans only.

Starts off a bit slow, not many are interested in baby life. However it soon becomes a solid read. Plenty humourous moments and as a Dallas fan, plenty inside information. Worth every penny.

Even if you don't particularly like reading autobiographies, I would whole heartedly recommend this book, Dallas fan or not! Larry had a very interesting life and explores the real behind the scenes world of making tv programmes, his own family life with his famous mother and all of the friends he made along the way (some famous, some not). Made me laugh out loud several times while sat only sun lounger on holiday!
