Product Description

The absolutely insane Yoshihiro Nishimura, director of Tokyo Gore Police and the amazing Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl, is back with another foray into disturbing wonder with the Japanese zombie movie Helldriver.

An alien-spawned, mysterious mist blankets the northern half of Japan, transforming those who inhale it into ravenous, flesh-eating zombies.

Plunged into chaos, Japan is torn in two: the southern half of the country, where the populace remains untouched by the deadly gas, lives behind a heavily-fortified wall, while the northern half is a lawless, zombie-infected wasteland.

Hope arrives in the form of Kika (Yumiko Hara), a beautiful high school girl armed with a chainsaw sword powered by an artificial heart. Recruited by the government, Kika leads a ragtag group of desperados on a secret mission into the zombie-infected wilds to exterminate zombie queen Rikka (Eihi Shiina from Audition, Tokyo Gore Police) and put an end to the plague of the living dead. But the road is fraught with a thriving zombie population that refuses to lay down and die!

I've seen quite a few of these Japanese splatter/comedy films and this one is probably one of the most mad, almost extreme. It's a satire on what Japan would do if there was a zombie-like outbreak and half of the country was quarantined off behind a wall. The fun partly comes from those who regard the zombies as still human and therefore should be cared for, and the others who regard them as no longer human and therefore should be destroyed.

Throw into the mix a poor girl - our hero (Yumiko Hara) - who's mother (Eihi Shiina) becomes the Queen of the zombies (not too much of a spoiler as this happens early in the film), and also a slightly disjointed format for storytelling - I've only watched the Director's Cut of the film, the Theatrical release version may be more linear (both versions on the Blu-ray) - and you have a wild ride where you really won't predict what's going to happen next.

This, like Tokyo Gore Police, is a Yoshihiro Nishimura-directed and written film, and it shows. This man, with a limited budget, can produce films full of inventiveness and originality way beyond the standard Hollywood fare, and more power to his elbow - even if he does use rather too much spurting-fake blood!

Sorry to report that I didn't get this from Amazon - I saw it cheaper elsewhere, which is unusual - but it's a film I recommend, so long as you can stand the inventive, but gory, violence (remember, it's NOT real!). I still prefer TGP though, just for the crocodile girl...

This movie is completely mental!
When a strange alien(looking something similar to DC's alien starfish Starro)attaches itself to Kika's sadistic mother, she gets possessed by the creature & turns into the zombie queen who has control over all the other zombies & rips out her daughter's heart, making it her own.
Kika is saved with the aid with an artificial heart, powering a chainsaw sword &,with a small band of survivors, sets out on a mission to rid Japan of the zombie plague once & for all.
It goes from one WTF moment to the next & there is so much squirting claret/body parts flying around it's completely OTT.
I like it,...but i dunno why!

This 2010 Japanese splatter film sees kika return home to find her cannibal mother and and lunatic uncle eating her dad. As she tries to escape, so a meteorite strikes Mum, but not before she rips Kikas heart out and a zombie plague is born dividing Japan in two. So far you’re only a few minutes in and the rest is too complicated to explain without giving the story away.
Surprisingly this opens to a very upbeat boppy title tune and although the special effects tend to be rather plastic looking, they are quite innovative what with cars made out of zombies, zombies using their babies on umbilical cords as weapons, multi legged and armed zombies and giants made from thousands of zombies... crazy.....just crazy.
The two disc set comes in a seemingly ordinary DVD case. The Disc 1 is the shorter international movie featuring play and chapters, Disc two is the full version and also has added features including a making of and trailer. Both have Japanese audio and English subtitles. Watch the second disc, the first is irrelevant.
This isn’t meant to be taken seriously as the opening scenes soon show and you’re 42 minutes in before the title come up, it’s a bit like ‘Starship Troopers’ meets the Reavers from ’Firefly’ all wrapped up in a manga style ‘Clockwork Orange’ musical ballet. If you like gore and don’t want deep meaningful dialogue, then this is for you. Action and blood all the way, it’s got to be a manic ***** view.

I liked the film. I was just disappointed that it says the item has one disc (It came with one disc), but on the back of the blu-ray artwork, It says two disc special edition? I would just like to know if I'm missing something? is it a misprint? & has anyone else noticed this?

I'd just like the details on here to match up with the details on the disc case and what is actually inside the case.

All in all i enjoyed the film.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Watched about 10 minutes, mostly fast forwarding through it because it was that bad and gave up. Nowhere near anything like Tokyo Gore as it should be. Doesn't even resemble the remotest likeness to Rob Zombie either. Utter waste of energy.
