The second season of Hell on Wheels continues the story of former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon and his epic journey west as he tries to leave his troubled past behind. Set in post-Civil War America in the treacherous travelling town that services the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, the series examines the greed and corruption in man s constant fight for power.
From the makers of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead and co-starring Anson Mount (Safe), Colm Meaney (Con Air), Common (Wanted) and Dominique McElligott (The Guard), Hell on Wheels - Season 2 is a thrilling look at one man's pursuit of revenge against the backdrop of a lawless and violent town.

They have managed to retain the full cast for Season 2 and it was strong from the outset. As others have said 'the Swede' (Christopher Heyerdahl)steals every scene he is in but he is supported by a very strong cast with no one actor off their game.
Whether we get a Season 3 is really the question?
Do yourself a favour and get 1 and 2 - you will not be disappointed.
Emphasis this time is on the characters, all of them flawed and complicated. Crooked boss Durant is aware high-ups in New York are cottoning onto his crimes. Chief Engineer Cullen still wrestles with inner demons, killing those who murdered his wife and son having brought no peace of mind. Half-caste Elam continues to fight against prejudice, as do the freed slaves. Irish brothers Mickey and Sean prove forces to reckon with. So many have loyalties torn in different directions. Widowed Lily Bell remains remarkably calm and efficient in the circumstances. All must watch out for The Swede - crazed and manipulative, he determined to disrupt and destroy.
The ten episodes abound with friction and bloodshed. Fine scripts ensure there is also much to uplift. Unexpected alliances, even friendships, are formed. Exhilaratingly differences are occasionally cast aside, when all unite against a common enemy.
A fine cast does justice to excellent scripts. Bonuses include background features on each episode, an interesting conducted tour of the sets by Anson Mount, details of challenges posed. (Not least convincing portrayal of what was probably the world's first major bridge ever to carry a train.)
For fans HELL ON WHEELS deservedly ranks amongst television's greats.
It is the story of a civil war veteren who upon returning from the war finds his wife and son have been murdered.
He embarks on a quest for vengence, and of course our hero is the toughest, meanest fighter and best gunmen of them all.
Anson Mount is brilliant as the growling, grubby but nonetheless honourable Cullen Bohannon, but there are no weak characters or poor acting in this series.
The stories are strong and the realism gripping.
you can practically smell the camp fires, dung and body odour seeping from the screen.
This series is from the people who made "Breaking Bad", possibly the best t.v. series ever, nuff said!
The series is addictive - I've watched the entire 1-5 seasons and it keeps getting better. Gritty and realistic. The only downside is it is finished. And the last few episodes not free on Amazon Prime. Hope AMC produce a spin-off series with Bohannon.
