As Eira returns to the village she suddenly realises that she’s being chased by a man riding an Iron horse she runs for her life not at all realising that things have changed, there is a man riding a two-wheeled monster that nearly runs her over, squashing her half-frozen body on the moors. Finn Olsen has encountered many things in his life however the terrified, knife wielding woman is dressed and speaks as though she’s from another time period.
How can she possibly be from a different time, why had she appeared in the year 2017, how was he going to ask her questions when she could not understand him or vice versa there were a lot of what if’s that could not easily be understood. Finn and Eira are aware that there are many unanswerable questions for instance how did a Viking woman appear out of thin air and what is the evil that seems to have followed, will they be able to solve the mystery and what would happen to Finn and Eira when and if a solution was found….
This was a terrific read from Ashe and I must say that the complexity of time was quite an unusual edge to take and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and that I was very, very impressed. I have always loved reading Ashe Barkers books and I can highly recommend this book to any-one wanting to read an exciting and innovative story that encompasses such an extremely and varied period in time. The creativity of her characters and her obvious in-depth investigation in to this time period has left me a little more advised on what the Viking time period involved.
I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

As Finn learns that Eira speaks a language he is unfamiliar with, Eira was afraid of Finn in his motorcycle helmet so their beginnings are strained by fear and language barriers. Finn contacts his cousin Brenna as she knows many languages and studies anthropology, she figures out what Eira is trying to express with her strange dialect.
There are very strange happenings going on as Finn searches through Eira's belongings of ancient and modern objects.
Finn takes complete control and care of Eira as they search for answers once they discover Eira was the bride of Audun who was killed by unknown people in her 11th century land.
I really enjoyed this and was giggling during the over the top, Audun The Magnificent image lol
I hope we get to see more of this type of book from Ashe Barker, it was a lot of fun, entertaining and sexy content while also giving us a mystery to solve for a great ending.
Ashe Barker's a new author for me, and I'm so glad I found her! This book's a magical, mystical mix of erotic romance, scientific possibilities, and historical accuracy, with BDSM and police procedural elements intricately woven into the storyline. The premise is unique. The research put into writing this story is obvious. Ms. Barker's knowledge is beyond impressive. I literally couldn't put this book down. The historical aspects of the storyline are incredibly accurate. The physical descriptions of both early eleventh century, as well as modern-day, Scotland are breathtakingly beautiful. But it's Finn and Eira who are truly remarkable. There's nothing at all simple about their relationship. That a man from the twenty-first century can even relate to, much less learn to communicate with and develop a closeness to, a Viking woman from the eleventh century, is incredible. I totally fell in love with these two. Their story is so real and believable. It truly demonstrates Ms. Barker's amazing writing ability. I am in awe of the creativity, research, and attention to detail that went into writing this book. I easily give Held in Custody 5 stars. It's one of the most riveting reads I've experienced in quite some time. Congratulations, Ms. Barker, on a very special, captivating book!
One final note. Please be an informed reader and consumer! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and BDSM/sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author! She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
