HASH(0x979069fc) out of 5 stars Skeptic's Guide to Pragmatic Monetizable Spiritualism and Balance 5 Oct. 2014
By Robert David STEELE Vivas - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I read this book on the way back from The New Story Summit at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, and have to admit that the experience there with many people both spiritual and practical, elevated my ability to appreciate this book. It is a solid five and strongly recommended for anyone who wishes to be more effective, more balanced, and happier.

There are at least two bottom-lines in this book:

01. You can have it all -- the trade-offs that CEOs have tended to make, sacrificing family and happiness (and often ethics as well) for the sake of the job are both unnecessary and counter-productive. AND, rather than EITHER/OR, is the central point of this book. Another word in this vein used by the author is HYBRID.

02. By integrating empathy, feelings, intuition, and a strong desire to SERVE, the authenticity, integral value, and sustainability of your entire offering will be radically enhanced, leading naturally to more and better (more ethical) money.

Multiple authors and mentors are deeply embedded into this book, here are just a few:

The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell on His Life and Work (The Collected Works of Joseph Campbell)
Super Brain: Unleashing the Explosive Power of Your Mind to Maximize Health, Happiness, and Spiritual Well-Being
A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future
Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality
The Dark Side of the Light Chasers

My copy of the book is heavily marked up. I will not try to summarize the book beyond the few notes below.

+ Eye opener on the benefits of balance
+ Roadmap for personal and professional empowerment -- to the next level
+ Integration is how we experience the breath of God ("rauch")
+ Eleven lessons on transformation -- alone worth the price of the book
+ QUESTION AUTHORITY -- "standard practices" are TIRED not Wired
+ Key frame: who do you want to ATTRACT to you and your work as a calling?
+ Focus on connectedness to diversity not on finding "like" beings
+ Entrepreneurship is pre-cognitive genius
+ Empathy critical to appreciate the larger context beyond one's self
+ Digital world is further disolving community (see my review of The Big Disconnect: Why The Internet Hasn't Transformed Politics (Yet), also read on the airplane coming home)
+ AND is a disruptive opportunity
+ Trust and surrender are ASSETS
+ "The Force" is patience, flexibility, trust, surrender
+ Let go the guilt (a common theme in many such books, but I find the author compelling)
+ Co-create, stop trying to be in charge
+ Story telling matters
+ Studying archtypes and fiction helpful to testing new paths (I obsess too much on non-fiction, this gets my attention)
+ Language includes art and song
+ Definition of a hero: catalyzing change

The book ends with a manifesto, 19 guidelines. It also has three substantive appendices and a glossary.

QUOTE (133): "We must also welcome whole-brain consulting and intuitive analytics inot the language of commerce.

I am glad I bought this book, and certainly recommend it!

Best wishes to all,
Robert David STEELE Vivas

HASH(0x9549ac24) out of 5 stars This Book is Special! 25 Feb. 2014

Finally. A book that blends spirituality with business. Instead of living a business path apart from your spiritual life, David Howitt does a masterful job of showing us how to blend the two to create a more satisfying and purpose-driven life. This books makes it very clear how much better our world would be if more people and businesses incorporated these lessons into their being. This is an important groundbreaking book that I highly recommend. It will change for the better how you think when you wake up every day!

HASH(0x950d3ed0) out of 5 stars Am I Living My Life Authentically? 5 May 2014
By Todd L Friedman - Published on
Format: Hardcover
David Howitt has written a gem of a book that forces us to ask a fundamental question: am I living my life authentically? In this book, Howitt shares with us his own journey, in which he achieved all of the trappings of success--a prestigious job, a big house, a fancy car and a loving family--yet felt miserable all the same. It is through Howitt's journey that we begin to understand his message--despite what we're conditioned to believe, life does not need to be difficult. It does not need to be a struggle. And it does not need to leave us feeling drained and miserable. Instead, it only seems that way because most of us are pursuing an inauthentic vision of life--pursuing what we think is supposed to make us happy, rather than what we know is right for us, if only we have the courage to ask the question.

Perhaps you have wondered why the people who seem to have the most fortune in life are the least happy, or perhaps you are one of them. This book is for you. Or, perhaps you've spent your life so far saying that once you achieved "x" or "y", you would be happy, yet you've discovered after achieving "x" or "y" that you actually weren't any happier, so it must be "z" that will really put you over the top. This book is for you. Or perhaps you are stuck in a job or a relationship that you are unsatisfied with, yet have soldiered on, thinking that this is the way it's supposed to be. This book is for you. Or perhaps you're on what you think is your true path already, but you don't know for sure. This book is for you, too.

The Heed Your Call message--to live life authentically, to see challenges as opportunities and to see through false choices, is meaningful. It is important. And it has the potential--if you are willing to listen to it--to change your life.

HASH(0x9790848c) out of 5 stars Wow! This book can change your life! 8 April 2014
By Paul Dickson - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I am always looking for good business and/or self-help books. Although there are literally thousands of them out there, good ones are few and far between. There are many good books which are so narrowly focused that I could never get through enough of them in my lifetime to do me any real good. So, for busy people like me, a good nonfiction book is one which incorporates several themes without diluting the authors' message(s). David Howitt has truly succeeded in doing so. He has integrated philosophies and theories from the likes of Joseph Campbell (clearly his primary mentor), Carl Jung, Deepak Chopra, Daniel Pink and many others to develop his own overarching theme: That we can have it all in work and life! We can incorporate both the right (creative) and left (analytical) sides of our brains which we all possess to live a more abundant life. He artfully integrates this theme into the entrepreneurial world by divulging his own innermost life and career decisions and helping us understand how embracing the power of "and" (left and right brain) can lead us to greater success and happiness. Adding to this is the benefit of the spirituality which encompasses everything around and including us. He frames this sometimes touchy subject perfectly, so no matter what your spiritual nature, you can tap into the positive life force of the universe. Truly an inspiring book!

HASH(0x9790863c) out of 5 stars What? You don't want to be a lawyer??? 25 Feb. 2014
By Yvonne - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Oh my goodness, I can't believe that I am not the only one who was coerced into a vocation that was not complimentary to my spirit. David was fortunate enough to go to a private school to obtain his license as a lawyer. He let's us know how debilitating this was to his body and his spirit. He shares the most important lessons with us to show us the path to abundance and joy. This book had me right out of the gate. I have recommended it to all my friends and family and now I am recommending it to you! Please purchase this book NOW - you will not be sorry.
