Heaven Can Help is described as the autobiography of a medium and It is exactly what it purports to be. The author, Brian E. Hurst, has an international reputation as a medium and in this book he takes the reader through the major happenings of his life, all of which contributed to his development as a medium.

He paints a compelling picture of himself as a sensitive, perhaps naïve, young man growing up in post war England where as a schoolboy he first developed his talents as an actor and a poet. His recollections of his time at school are amazing, giving how many years have passed. After leaving school he goes to London where he studies dramatic art with some success and then turns to teaching. At this point he is invited to accompany an Indian friend on a visit to that country. In the next few years he continues to teach, first in North London and then in India. His experiences in India are fascinating and he vividly recreates the atmosphere of that continent.

His experiences in psychic healing when he was back in England make interesting reading and his loyalty to the Elizalde couple is admirable. Brian was already over forty when he went to the United States and completed a degree in English Literature. It is in California that he seems to have blossomed as a medium and gained the wide reputation, which he still enjoys.

The charm of this book lies in it simplicity; what it may lack in writing expertise it makes up for in its sincerity. The author has a prodigious memory and his anecdotes are both convincing and interesting.

Whatever ones own beliefs might be, one does not, for one minute, doubt the truth of the author's experiences or his beliefs. To many people who have lost loved ones this testament of a life after death could bring comfort and hope, which is the author's declared intention.

HASH(0x98faa9f0) out of 5 stars An excellent read that can change your life 24 Nov. 2009

Heaven Can Help was an easy read. I was fascinated by the content and the author's close attention to detail in his descriptions of some remarkable events. The writing has a distinctly English flavor that I found most enjoyable.
The accounts of physical mediumship were really interesting, notably the author's sittings with Leslie Flint and the Scole Experimental group as well as several other talented mediums. Heaven Can Help is most inspiring and will impress believers and skeptics alike. There is no way the evidence described can simply be dismissed as hallucination. The trials and tribulations the author endured on his journey into mediumship have been expressed with total honesty and in great detail. Reading this extraordinary book has convinced me that there is an afterlife that is limitless. Death is not final and we continue to exist for an eternity in a better place.
Losing a loved one is always difficult, but Heaven Can Help brings comfort to those of us who grieve and offers remarkable evidence of a better life to come.

HASH(0x9ad5df60) out of 5 stars Heaven Can Help 31 May 2014

This is a captivating and thoroughly enjoyable read. There is more to life than mere coincidence. We are all here on Earth for special purposes, and are eternal souls. Brian has devoted his life exploring and experiencing phenomena on a different frequency. Above all, he is a sensitive medium who spent decades comforting the survivors of departed loved-ones through his sittings. Brian is the 'real deal' for he channeled my departed brother at a sitting for me.

Very boring and hard to read with all the Indian names and sometimes hard to keep track what the point of the story was.
