The PRT includes Optimum Start which is an energy saving feature designed to reduce the amount of heat up time required by automatically learning the heat up time your home needs. Standard Features; *Large display *5/2 day or 7 Day Programming (Selectable in software) *Self Learning Optimum Start on 1st and 3rd Level *4 Comfort Levels per Day *Temperature Hold Facility *Holiday Facility *Automatic blue back-light (Turns off after 30 seconds) *Flush mounting *°C / °F Selectable *Up to 4 changes in room temperature *Key Locking Facility *Frost protection with adjustable temperature setting. *Remote control optional *Supply: 230v / *Outputs: Volt free 3A Max *Dimensions: 98mm x 85mm x 13mm (Height, Width, Depth) (Please note this thermostat is flush mounting and so requires a back box) Upgrading your Existing Thermostat and selecting the Terminal Output 1. Firstly, check that you have at least three wires (excluding the earth) behind your existing stat. If you have, the PRT is compatible. 2. Our changeover terminal option is for those controlling a valve that needs power to open and power to close. If you are simply controlling a boiler, just select the standard model.

The Heatmiser units look great but I was not sure which one I needed. I contacted Heatmiser and I am very glad I did. A very helpful chap asked what type of motorised valve I had. He told me that if I had a three port valve, I would need a relay and extra wiring to control the hot water. I already had a working programmer installed so the solution was to buy the PRT model and allow the old programmer to continue to control the water heating. I just need to set the Central Heating to CONSTANT. Got the unit and 5 core cable. Wiring was very simple. During SET UP which also was straightforward I set Frost Protect to On. DO NOT do this as it switches the heating off - as the instructions clearly say, so my fault it did not operate first time. Once corrected all worked fine and I, and importantly my wife, are very happy with the result. So impressed that I have added photos of how to install on this site. I am not a qualified electrician but any competent DIY person could fit this unit with ease.

Replaced a SUNVIC 240v standard room stat. Worked almost first time. Before starting I checked power to the terminals on the SUNVIC and then turned off the power. Fitted the PRT and restored power - Nothing. Checked my connections all Ok. Then realised that the central heating timeclock had gone into an OFF period. I put it into constant and heh presto the PRT came on. I'd suggest changing the C/H timeclock to constant before you start. Also the PRT is a tight fit into a 35mm backbox so breakoff every lug from the backbox that you can before fitting.

I just wanted a programmable controller for my heating and got even more than I expected. They have thought of everything including holiday setting and override etc. You can have three different heat settings in a 24hr period i.e. Wake up/go to work/go to bed etc. Easy to fit red/blue/yellow wire connection. Nice big display and much bigger than the Honeywell similar device. Only hint for first timers is that the Heatmiser website is a little evasive regarding wiring but basically, no matter how ancient the existing thermostat is, if you have red/blue/yellow wires already there and correctly set up from the boiler you can't go wrong. Don't need an earth if its not already there so far as I can see.

I ordered the Heatmiser PRT on Wednesday, as my existing standard room thermostat had broke. It arrived the next day and I had it installed and working within half an hour. The instructions are clear and concise, and the programming of the unit is simple. Thank you.

I wanted to replace a Honeywell 6360 manual and basic dial-type hall thermostat and this looked just the sort of thing I wanted. I had four wires to the Honeywell; red, blue, yellow and earth and telephoned Heatmiser to confirm that the PRT was a direct replacement and confirmed that the red and blue went to the live and neutral terminals as expected and that the yellow went to the A2 terminal. I am sure he said that another link wire (not supplied) had to be inserted between terminals A1 & A2, with the earth connected to the back box because the PRT doesn't have an earth park terminal like the Honeywell (neither unit requires earthing).
I found the PRT fitted easily into the 35mm back box and it looks so much neater when installed and although it was working itself, it wasn't switching the boiler on at all. A look at the Heatmiser 'community' site didn't yield any FAQs or any other assistance, for some reason. I eventually Googled 'PRT' and found some limited information and the key part was an instruction to put the link between the 'live' and A1 terminals, with the other wires as above. The boiler fired up straight away as soon as I switched the electrics back on.
That difficulty aside, I am very happy with the PRT. The instructions obviously aren't great or comprehensive but the programming of the unit is easy, if not entirely intuitive. Don't let any of that put you off though. This is the first time I have ever dabbled with central heating controls and not knowing about the required link and where to put it was the only real difficulty.

Now the house is never too hot and never too cold. We used this to replace an old mechanical thermostat which was insufficiently sensitive, resulting in having to constantly manually click the heating in and out. Otherwise the house would get far too cold or warm before the old clunky thermostat would switch automatically.
With the Heatmiser PRT this is no longer a problem. Just set the desired temperature and the house will remain exactly how you like it. It is also fully programmable and so can replace your existing timer unit too. Just set your Central Heating to 'Continuous' and use the PRT to turn it on and off each morning and evening. Installation instructions are very clear. It is flush-mounted and the electronics require quite a deep recess - 35mm is fine. The unit looks great with a very attractive blue backlight - no more peering in the dark at your settings!

Our house oscillated between too hot and too cold because of the combination of slow switching and lag in the system. Can't do much about the second, without spending hundreds on fancy control systems. Based on other reviews, I thought this was worth a try. Took about an hour to install, and that only because I had to run power to it. Now we have a fairly stable temperature and I no longer have to keep manually switching the thermostat. You just set it and leave it, just like a thermostat should be! If you're still suffering with a bi-metallic switch, buy one of these - you will not regret it.
