Essie is struggling with the seven stages of grief. she has passed the shock and denial phase but is trapped in a hell of her own making by not letting go of the pain and the guilt. Trying desperately to avenge the death of her beloved brother by ruining the only living member of the Callaghan family she is being torn apart by her anger. After a night in his arms when she realises he isn't the devil in disguise, Essie sinks into stage four - depression. How can the last five years of her life be all for nothing? Can she reconcile her heart with her head? Is she brave enough to take the next or will she fall backwards and be consumed by the ugliness death has left in its wake?
Aidan has had five years to coke to terms with the loss of his family and the mistakes of his brother. He has had five years to watch from shadows and protect the fragile woman who was left behind when his brother ripped her world apart. During that time his concern and need to protect has developed into something more but after their explosive night together will he ever find the right time to explain? Proving to her that he knows and doesn't care about her grand plan as he loves her will be like a mountain to climb but can he show her what is truly in his heart?
I thought this was a beautiful story that dealt with grief, loss and love. Essie is lost in her sea of pain and Aidan is her life jacket keeping her afloat. They have passion, anger and understanding. Their obstacles are great but can they overcome together? A wonderful end to the story that capture my imagination.
A four star wild horse read.
The story picks up directly where the last book finishes and the tug of war that Essie starts with Aidan continues and she is still intent in getting retribution for her brothers death by destroying Aidan’s business.
the book flows well and engaged me as a reader. I enjoyed the conclusion, I just felt that it would have served better as a complete novel but i enjoyed it none the less.

“Hate, Lust, Love, 3 stars”
When I first agreed to read Hearts on Fire I didnt realize that it was the second book about one couple. I was worried that I would be incredibly lost in this book. Thankfully I wasnt. Cole Jaimes gave enough back story to help understand why the two main characters were the way they were.
Aidan Callahan is a man of honor and integrity. When his brother fell asleep at the wheel killing their parents, himself, and another driver he packed up his life and moved home to take over the family business. Also he made sure that the other drivers only living relative was taken care of. Only he was attracted to Essie. Can he win her over and claim her as his?
Essie has dedicated the last five years to finding every dirty thing out about Aidan and his deceased family. His brother killed her brother. The only person she had left in the world. Only problem is shes starting to like him. The sex is fantastic, but hes the man that she plans to take down. His family ruined her life so she wants to ruin his. But can she? Or will her feelings get in the way.
There were two things I didn't like about this book. I felt like the conversation between the two main characters was kind of stilted. I dont know why but I didn’t feel like it was how a real conversation sounds. Unless your listening to two very awkward people. The other thing I didn’t like was you never really got to know any of the secondary characters. Essie only talked to her best friend in this book once, I don’t know about you but I talk to mine a lot more then that. And you had no one from Aidan’s side. It was just weird to me.
Nonetheless it was still a decent book. Here are some snip bits that caught my attention;
“She’s so beautiful. I often find myself wishing there was another word , another more effective word for describing how stunning she is.”
“I love that she finally feels like she can curl up next to me, and I love that even though I’m no longer inside of her, it still feels like we’re connected, like we’ve merged and become one, into something bigger than ourselves and more important than an orgasm.”
“Even before I open my eyes to the early sunlight that is just peeking through the curtains, I know that she’s still here, still in my arms. I can’t help the smile that spreads over my face.”
Writing style- 3/5
**I was given a ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. SBR**
In Heart's Revenge, we are left with Essie walking out on Aiden after a night of passion. With revenge still on Essie's mind and Aiden aware of the broken woman he has fallen for.
Hearts On Fire begins with Essie questioning her plans for revenge for the past 5 years, how can she sleep with or have feelings for the man she wants to destroy. Since the death of her brother Vaughn Essie has been a broken woman, her heartbreak is so apparent and in a few scenes it almost tore me in two.
Aiden, is more than I expected and everything I wanted. Leaving life on the beach to run his family's corporation after the death of his brother and parents. He picked up the pieces that his brother Alex left behind and for 5 yrs. kept a watchful eye on the woman that lost the most important person to her...her brother. Aiden is so honest, patient, loving and dominating when he needed to be. I almost lost it a few times when Aiden would patiently watch while Essie would throw all her hurt and anger at him, it was so freeing yet so heartbreaking.
Hearts On Fire is so perfectly written by Cole Jaimes, I was given everything I expected from this story. Aiden and Essie's tug of war of emotions, revenge plot, heartbreak, forgiveness and finding closure. It also ends with a perfect epilogue that will leave you with a smile and a little toe curling...totally hot scene!
I am just saying and leaving my review with this, there is one character in the story that I would love to read more about and his name is Max, Vaughn and Essie's best friend.
