Even though I prefer longer books, this short story surprised me in the best possible way. I found theme of this story very fresh and original. I truly liked the idea about two strangers stuck in darkness of elevator and getting to know each other based only on their personalities. They were able to put aside all prejudices, not caring what the other person look like.

Both characters, Caden and Makenna, they are really sweet and adorable. Story has a rapid course and you will get to know both characters well in a very short time. Gradually, they reveal all their secrets and start to fall for each other even though they have never seen each other. Another thing which surprised me in a really good way, was switching narrators between Makenna and Caden. It helped me to know what exactly they were thinking and it dragged me more deeply into the story.

While reading this story, I could feel connection between two characters getting stronger. I could feel their passion and compassion for each other. I could feel Caden's anxiety about what will Makenna think about his oddities" when she sees him for the first time. I could feel Makenna's anxiety about what will Caden think about her ordinarities" when he sees her for the first time. And most of all, I could feel Caden's pain from his lost...

I am claustrophobic so this was quite challenging reading for me. But it was worth it! Apart from original story and adorable characters, this book has a huge bonus - it is super hot and sexy! I highly recommend this book, you won't regret reading it.

I was looking for another stranded on a desert island book because I was really in the mood for that kind of story so I searched the Goodread’s data base and came up with this category; Trapped/Stranded/Wilderness Romance Books. Hearts in Darkness rated number two and I knew I just had to read it. Okay so it is not a desert island instead it is set in a lift.

Makenna is having the day from hell. All she wants to do is go home open a bottle of wine and sit in front of the television. As she is leaving work she drops her phone and doesn’t realise the battery has fallen out as she steps into the lift. She is too wrapped up in herself to notice anything about the good Samaritan who holds the door for her.
Caden has just left a meeting in the building that Makenna works in. He doesn’t know her but notices her beautiful red hair. The lift has just set off down to the ground floor when the lights go out and the lift gets stuck! Caden doesn’t like enclosed spaces and needs to find a distraction.
These two strangers are in the wrong place at the right time. They need each other they just don’t know it yet. Fate throws them the ball they need in this sweet but hot romance novel.

I have to admit tragic pasts aren’t really my thing but in this book it worked. The lift adventure brings them together when they shut everyone else out. 4.5 stars out of 5.

This book was 99p on Amazon and totally worth it and better still now is the time to read it as the sequel is due out January 12th.

I'm a huge fan of Laura Kaye's writing and I've heard amazing things about Hearts in Darkness so I'd actually bought a copy of this book a couple of years ago but for some reason I'd never got around to reading it. I'm not even sure why I put it off for so long because I was expecting to enjoy it but I think I kind of liked knowing I had a fab book tucked away ready for a rainy day when I might need it. Then I found out that Laura is releasing a sequel in the new year so I decided it was about time to dive in and now I'm kicking myself for not getting to it sooner because I absolutely loved this story. Considering the majority of the book is about two strangers trapped in a pitch black elevator together waiting for the power to come back on I'm kind of surprised by how fabulous it was!

Makenna was digging for her phone while rushing to catch the elevator so she wasn't paying attention to the person who held the door open for her and all she saw of Caden before the lights went out was a tattooed hand. Caden just saw a mountain of shopping bags and a flash of gorgeous red hair before everything went dark and his claustrophobia sent him into a panic. It's only the sound of Makenna's voice that helps him push back his fear so he urges her to keep talking and help take his mind of things. The longer they are trapped together in the dark the more they realise how much they're enjoying each other's company but will the magic persist after the lights come back on and they get to see each other for the first time?

Hearts in Darkness sucked me in from the first page, I fell in love with both of the characters and I really enjoyed spending time watching them get to know each other.

I really really really enjoyed this book!! After reading fifty shades and beautiful disaster I was bereft of a beautiful but broken man!! I love the idea of this book! (in reality should it happen to you or are it is likely we would find ourselves trapped in a lift with someone who had BO and picked his way through his stash of cheese and onion crisps!!) the characters were lovely, the darkness which they were trapped in added to the excitement, the way the story was told. All in all a really good read, thoroughly enjoyed and read in one sitting! Excellent work!!
