I read Emylia Hall's first book, set in Hungary, and loved it, so ordered this one eagerly.
I would recommend this book to any romantic, mainly women.
At first Lausanne does not disappoint: Hadley meets the enigmatic Hugo Bezier, the exuberant Danish born, Kristina, and Joel Wilson, visiting Professor from California. Kristina and Hadley quickly connect and become best friends, But Kristina has a secret lover, Jacques, and when the worst happens, all Hadley can think is to find Jacques.
This is the story of what happens along the way and its immediate aftermath. It is a story of love, loss and enduring friendship and the lure of a beautiful and undiscovered place. It is also a story of a tragedy, betrayal and the discovery of awful truth and how your past can - or sometimes cannot - provide an anchor in the maelstrom.
Well written, and with as many twists as a serpent's tail, the end of this novel may surprise the reader. I didn't find it a particularly easy book to get into but persevere as the story picks up pace and the characters then take on a life of their own.
