2.0 out of 5 stars Patchwork of free open access research studies and reviews 12 May 2015
By Maura - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
So, I normally don't write reviews on Amazon. And I haven't personally bought this book. However, I still feel adequately equipped to leave judgement as I've read quite a lot of the works which have been included in this expensive patchwork monster. My problem with it is the fact that it uses articles of scientist, which have previously been published as open access articles under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. So these works are available for free! The whole idea about open access is to allow publically funded research to be broadly available for students, other researchers, and laypersons alike. So these people basically took some free work (done by other people), put it together in a book and want to sell it for 142.51$. The authors of the actual works by the way were likely not compensated, as again, they published it previously for free for the public to enjoy.
