Maggie Jaimeson is a talented author. Healing Notes is only the second of her books that I've read.
I will be reading the third in this series.
I enjoy reading a variety of books, one being "feel good" , but I want some reality in them.
This book, a continuation of a unique all girl band, delivers both. This is Rachael's story.
She was introduced in Undertones, book one. A talented musician with a past to overcome.
Very well written with a lesson to be learned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another enjoyable read 27 Sept. 2016

Maggie Jamieson has written another enjoyable novel in the Sweetwater Canyon series.

Rachel and Noel's story is an interesting one. It is a story where love conquers all. It is heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is the story of the love between father and daughter;, the love between a little girl and a woman she initially admirers from a blues band; the love of music; and the love in families of all types.

This is a beautiful, and at times haunting, novel. It is engrossing and arresting. It is a story of perfectly flawed characters who are tough yet vulnerable. It is a novel I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Follow-Up 19 Nov. 2012

I received a copy of this book as a part of a blog tour in exchange for a fair and honest review:

Like the notes in a symphony, Maggie Jaimeson's Healing Notes draws the reader in and never lets go. With well developed characters, good dialogue and a well paced plot, Ms. Jaimeson tackles broken hearts, broken spirits and violence against women in a way which is as gripping as it is empowering. While the subject of violence against women isn't easy to discuss, in or out of fiction, it's a relevant topic which is often overlooked in the world of romance. Kudos to Ms. Jamieson for tackling a difficult subject.

A year after a violent attack, violinist Rachel Cullen, is struggling to survive everyday life. Determined to move past what she's lost, Rachel finds herself looking forward to reconnecting with the members of her band, Sweet Canyon, and going on tour. Falling in love with a sweet little girl, and her gorgeous father, at their first concert wasn't a part of her plan. While she's attracted to the idea of a family, Rachel doesn't know if she will ever be able to deal with sex in a relationship. Or if there's any man on earth who would be willing to deal with her emotional baggage. Ms. Jaimeson did a wonderful job with Rachel's character; musically talented, Rachel is emotionally fragile, angry and hurt over what she's lost in the last year. With help from a counselor, she's managed to survive but wants more. As the story progresses we get to see Rachel regain parts of who she was, while at the same time realizing her desires have changed.

Now a single father, Noel Kershaw is raising Claire, his young daughter, and teaching at the local high school. When he and Claire meet Rachel at a local concert, he's attracted to her but senses her emotional fragility and sees her as a woman with too much baggage. Determined to be smarter the second time around, Noel wasn't counting on his daughter's decision to learn how to play violin or on his daughter's growing attachment to a stranger. Ms. Jaimeson lets us see into Noel's past and his current fears - it's totally understandable why he wants to protect Claire after everything they've already gone through. While he's fair, he's also being very careful about what he lets into their lives. Allowing Rachel into their lives might be more than he can handle, even on temporary terms.

The scenes with Rachel and Noel are well written and their chemistry is obvious from the start. While the scenes with them together, it's their emotional frailty which really drew me in. They both hurt so much and needed each other but their fear and past pain almost kept them apart. The scenes with them and Claire are sweet and just reinforced the fact they belonged together as a family.

The secondary characters, from the members of Sweet Canyon, to Noel's family, help add color and emotional depth. I really enjoyed Kat, the youngest member of Sweet Canyon, who's first sexual experience is nothing like what she expected. It was great to see Rachel help her along, as she'd been helped. My favorite secondary character is of course Claire, Noel's daughter, who's smart, talented and a fantastic judge of character. She rapidly falls in love with Rachel and recognizes she's the missing part their family needs.

Will Rachel and Noel be able to get beyond the hurt and betrayal which has taken place in their lives? Will Sweet Canyon continue be able to survive all the changes the future is going to bring with their success? You'll have to read Healing Notes to find out. I can't wait to see whose story Ms. Jaimeson will write next.

I enjoyed getting to know the ladies of Sweetwater Canyon. This story was heart-wrenching. The emotions pulled me in and kept me hoping for goodness to prevail and it did. Great characters and fulfilling ending.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book dealing with a very painful experience far too many women face. 15 Feb. 2017

I received a copy of this book from the author in consideration of my review. WOW! In the first book of this series we met all the characters of Sweetwater Canyon band. These are some fierce strong friends. Each has their own style and approach to life and its problems. But they stick together whether they like what you are doing or not. Rachel's choice of no strings sex as her way to cope with her divorce was something her friends counseled her on almost constantly. In this book the author takes Rachel through the healing process to recover from her violent rape that almost killed her. The band is becoming more successful and that's part of the story because for these ladies, the music they make is also part of their healing. Noel and his daughter Claire meet Rachel and there is immediate chemistry. Rachel falls in love with Noel and Claire. You'll fall in love the this precocious little girl. As Rachel and Noel work through their issues and relationship, one of Rachel's rapers is arrested and she has to appear for trial. This author has presented the issues of rape and its victims very well. But don't think you're going to be depressed by this crime that touches almost every family. Thank you Maggie Jameson for this book. I've not had to live through what Rachel did but I've known others who have and Healing Notes is a positive approach to the necessary healing and recovery. This is a great series and I'm ready to move ahead to the next story.
