Lisa Becker is a murder investigator working in Berlin. She dreams of a romantic relationship, but being a bit heavier, her self-doubt about her body image holds her back.

Witty and bold, Lisa is one tough cookie. When heads start coming off, she and her partner/love interest, Fabian, set out to figure out who is the culprit. As she follows her strong intuition, things get even more dangerous as she gets closer to solving the murder case.

'Heads Off' is an entertaining murder mystery to pick up for readers who like their characters refreshingly different and genuine, along with a complex and unpredictable plot that you will not want to put down.

This is some story that has you guessing along, because where does begin... firstly you have the main character Lisa Becker who as always has a crush on her detective colleague, the oh so handsome cute derriere Herr Fabian Zonk who seems like a player, and then on the other hand there is Sven the reporter, a friend who lives on the top floor in the same building as her, of whom keeps visiting her, and helps himself to coffee, makes tea for them etc... as if he had lived with her all along. Which I should also add has a crush on her, except the problem is that Lisa Becker can't visualise any romantic connections with him, since she treats him like "one of the girls", someone who she can have a very comfortable talk with.

However this is just one of the side plot, for the main plot of the story is that there's a serial killer on the loose in Berlin with a trademark signature of beheading their victims, and with suspects ranging from a couple of whom's husband is actually delighted that one of the victim has been killed, and then the coroner has to ask a local butcher for advice and help in the murder enquiry, the author has your mind running around in circles as to trying to puzzle the pieces together, especially when later that the discovery of the two victims had an affair with the same married woman, and the possibility of her husband seeking revenge.

Overall, this is one seriously complex mysterious plot, a book that'll surprise you right until the very end with some totally unexpected twist. Just make sure you don't forget or fall on top of the cat though.

Heads Off follows the story of crime inspector Lisa Becker as her and her partner Fabian are tasked to find a psychotic serial killer. This book is great because of it's many dimensions, it doesn't just follow the murder case but also the complicated relationship between Lisa and Fabian. The protagonist Lisa struggles with confidence issues and has insecurities which brings reality to the story. Heads Off is a brilliant crime thriller, full of plot twists and witty humour. I would thoroughly recommend it!

Detective Inspector Lisa Becker is a very tough, modern woman. She thinks her job is dull, she's not getting any thinner and her boss has serious B.O! This quirky crime thriller describes the police investigation of a killer who's removing people's heads while they sleep, and leaving a hell of a mess!

Other crime thrillers I've read have been very serious and I found them a bit draining; this, however, is quirky and I really enjoyed reading it. I like the diversions from the main theme of death and blood, into who would make a good boyfriend and how to get rid of that stray cat in the living room.

Entertaining, definitely recommended!

I've so enjoyed the new wave of Scandinavian police and mystery shows and wanted to read more from elsewhere on the continent and Heads Off was a great start. Lisa Becker is a breath of fresh air, Berlin is a fantastic backdrop and there was a real sense of something nicely different with the story. As a mystery it was exciting and fast paced, clever and bold, everything it should be to be well worth the read. Highly recommended!

This is the second Lisa Becker mystery that I've read, although it's the first in the series; my fault I read them the wrong way around. The first book I read was 'The Vampire of Berlin', which I really enjoyed. I was keen, therefore, to discover more books by Falko Rademacher.

The thing I like best about these books in the main character, Lisa Becker. She is a very unlikely hero, but this just adds to the charm of these stories. The characters are very unbelievable, the plot rather unconventional. I would describe this book as a little bit of 'Bridget Jones', a smattering of 'Columbo' and a touch of P.D.James.

Recommended reading for anyone who likes crime fiction, but is bored with the traditional format usually on offer, Falko Rademacher is definitely one to watch!

If you're a fan of dry, witty and rather gruesome humour, you've love Heads Off. I loved the fact that the main character (Lisa) wasn't the typical skinny minnie, perfect looking protagonist. She's completely flawed but that's what makes her character so relatable. If you're looking for an thrilling, fast-paced and slightly macabre treat, this is the book to read.

My first Lisa Becker book. Very enjoyable. Will read more in this series. Enjoyed it.

A light read. Set in Berlin. Liked the main character.

Not as detailed or as heavy as the Scandanavian detective thrillers. More of a light romp.
