Product Description

Meet Sara – a veterinarian so skilled she can spay a tortoise one-handed. She’s successful, she’s popular – there’s just one chink in her armour: she’s too scared to tell her parents she’s gay. So, on the evening of her 40th birthday, Sara’s friends come up with an ultimatum: either she tells her parents the truth when they come to visit in six weeks’ time, or they will. To help Sara achieve this goal, they buy a series of sessions with Toria, the eccentric and mildly-qualified lifestyle coach-cum-therapist. And so the countdown to the big reveal begins…

'Heading Out' was an original, funny comedy that deserved more credit. Sue Perkins proved that she is not only a brilliant comedienne but also a natural actress. She has a unique point of view that many people fail to perceive. The awkwardness and fear of 'coming out' rings a lot of bells. It is realistic in that it portrays being lesbian as difficult when trying to find love, unlike many other series which live in a fantasy world comprising of every woman you meet being lesbian and immediately wanting to bed you. Wake up to the real world!! My only disappointment was the ending. I wanted Sue's character to finally get the girl she had fallen for but it ended on an anti climax. Another series may have put this right but, alas, it looks like this will never happen. A great one-off comedy to cherish, all the same. Sue should write more comedy series instead of jetting off round the world. Wonderful at this though she may be, comedy is where she belongs. An inspiration.

Sue Perkins makes comedy look effortless. She has the skill to look as though she is blithely meandering through her shambolic life, in these episodes. Immensely endearing, never trying too hard, she is funny and watchable and you want things to work out for her. The bubbling-under romance that drifts across some of the episodes is poignant and underplayed. The fact that this show has a lesbian as the protagonist, and never exploits this for vicarious titillation is admirable.
Enjoyed this show very much and would watch more very happily.

I'm a vet and I thought this series was a brilliant insight into my working life, I'm not a lesbian but if i were I would like to date the lovable, funny and charming Sue Perkins.

I am still so, so gutted this show was cancelled after the first season. It's incredibly funny and often had me in tears laughing. Nicola Walker is fantastic in this, and Sue Perkins is being Sue Perkins - always fabulous! It's so nice to see lesbian representation that's not about objectification. Highly recommended.
