Review
'Engaging and honest, like its author, it is one of my favourite books of the year.'
(Tess Stimson)'Ooh la la! A fabulous, funny French love story.'
(Fi Cotter Craig)A tale of survival against the odds in the depths of the French countryside. How one woman left the glittering world of media to be with, of all things, a macho Frenchman. A mad decision? Find out for yourself in this addictive and fast-paced read.
(Helena Frith Powell, author of Love in a Warm Climate)'I loved this book; its true story of how a chance encounter took Sam from despair to delight, and from hopelessness to happiness, made me keep on reading. We never know what is around the corner or how in our bleakest times happiness is often just in front of us. Apart from being a fabulous read, this book is inspiring, uplifting, funny and poignant by turns. Sam can really write; her descriptions of rural France - the colours, the scents, the food and the people - made me feel as if I was already there and made me want to decamp there immediately. It is true to say this book is a page turner; I became lost in it even though I had a hundred other things to do as it forced me to escape into the expat world of rural France and was very entertaining and uplifting. I can highly recommend it.'
(Marisa Peer)I SO know what it's like to be in that place of darkness; to have everything and to lose it all. I think a lot of people are going to be able to relate to it, and without sounding cheesy, it's… inspirational stuff.
(Jasmine Lennard)'This funny and incredibly honest account details Samantha's first year in a new country and how she just aobut coped with it all.'
(Natasha Harding The Sun)'It's likely you already have an opinion about Samantha Brick, but rather than remind you who she is and what's she's said, I'm going to advise coming to this book with a completely open mind and trying to forget what you thought you knew. Head Over Heels In France is the true story of her transformation from successful TV exec to French housewife living in a tiny village in the Lot region of the country...it's an engaging, enjoyable read about love, laughter and living life the way you want to. C'est tres bien!'
(Claire Frost Fabulous Magazine (The Sun))'... it is the picture of Brick spending all day in a dressing gown, unable even to wash her hair, which stays with me most strongly... I like and admire her.'
(Nick Curtis (Interviewer of the Year, 2012 Press Awards) London Evening Standard)'A rather sweet - and brutally honest and often funny - love story.'
(Connexions France)'Love or loathe her newspaper columns about the difficulties of being a beautiful woman, Samantha Brick writes amusingly and honestly.'

The love story is quite touching and she does not gloss over the difficult bits.
Pascal seems both steadfast and stubborn and she has definately met her match yet her sense of always trying her best no matter what just shines through.
Struggle to learn french no problem can,t cook well she is nothing if not stoic she just grits her teeth and gets on with it.
The loss of her former life comes out of the shadows and a stronger more adept personality emerges and who could begrudge her that? Nevermind the silly article or news worthy provocations this shows the real samantha and she comes across as very likeable i admit it i was hooked and by the time they got married i had a lump in my throat..wishing her the best and every deserved happiness..
While reading the book I did feel that the whole relationship was going to fall apart and that it wouldn't work like so many other people were probably thinking. However what I didn't bank on was the compromises that Sam was willing to make and how determined she was to make things work. If I am honest I did wonder at times how anyone could stand to be with the stubborn and overbearing Pascal and lead such a mundane life from the glamourous one she had previously even if the french scenery was stunning in LOT. She really must have been head over heels because that's the only reason anyone would stay. In addition to that she had other hurdles to contend with like a language barrier as she couldn't speak French, being a very poor cook, a teenage stepson who likes firecrackers, jealousy from Miriam and acceptance from the locals, local grapevine etc. I did wonder if she was just burying her head in the sand and running away from all her previous troubles. I think a follow on book for this story would be a good idea because I don't think it will be all plain sailing from this point on.
The novel itself is well written with plenty of detail. A good debut novel.
A really huge change is lifestyle, from riches to rags but came out smiling and for a reason, she found happiness. I admire the author for her honesty, and for describing the difficulties as well as the romance, for telling it true.
People are quick to critise a certain lifestyle but if it's all you know then it's normal, to take on such a massive change is a very brave thing, but to take it and find that you enjoy it is certainly an achievement.
I really enjoyed this book and would read more from this author.
Irritatingly, the author refers many times to the back seats of the open-top Mazda MX-5; there are no back seats in an MX-5. And three times she writes 'miniscule'; non, no, it is is 'minuscule', ma chère.
A drudge.
