The stories in the book are harrowing and I am glad that the people that suffered the horrible abuse got the chance to tell their story. Well done to the author for giving them the chance. It is a little repetitive, however.

HASH(0x94d6b354) out of 5 stars WHAT SOME FOLKS NEVER KNEW AND SOME STILL DON'T BELIEVE. 27 April 2014
By Antoinette Nasky - Published on Amazon.com

I began reading about the abuse of children in Ireland after seeing the Movie The Magdalenese.I remember sitting not far from a group of 3 nuns and 2 priests. The comment from one of the nuns drew chills from my body. She said "now lets see how much of this is made up ha ha ' I watched this movie in horror and vowed to educate myself on this subject. Haunting cries echoes what all of the books I have read on this subject . What a horrific piece of history for the people of Ireland, The catholic Church both here and in Ireland. Babies stolen by the church and sold to Americans. Punishments of children that caused suicides, death and mental illness. How could the church condone this and how could or can those nuns and priests and brothers, still alive justify what they did, and more to the point how can they live with themselves. I know that God is a forgiving God, but I, in my heart cannot forgive them or the church. When I say I loved it, I mean that I am very glad that it is still being exposed. But the histories are nightmarish and worse.

I chose this rating because it was informational and true history. This does not mean I approved of what happened during this period of time, but I think everyone should be aware of the facts. It brought me to tears.

We need books like this to awaken us to the horrific abuse that the Irish children (and women) went through at the hands of the Catholic Church. There were times when I had to put the book down and take a breather because of the abuse these poor innocent children suffered. After many years the abused are still suffering emotionally, all the children and women who have "survived"this treatment need to be compensated. How so called christians (nuns, priests and the brothers) could have abused these children is just beyond belief. The Catholic church have a lot to answer for.!

Excellent revelation of all the terrible things done to children under the guise of Catholic charity. As a Catholic myself, I am ashamed and devastated to learn of all these atrocities. Should be read by all.

HASH(0x955d7a38) out of 5 stars Well worth reading. 23 Mar. 2015

A horrifying true story of widespread abuse of vulnerable children by Irish catholic priests, nuns and brothers. I lived in Ireland during this time, and had never even heard of Industrial Schools. This was one well-kept secret that ruined countless lives and satisfied the perversions of the perpetrators. In the end, there is plenty of blame to go around, and none of us came away unscathed. Well worth reading.
