This book appealed to me for several reason. Firstly I would have picked up this book for it's cover. I was drawn to the ghostly theme and how a little boy is haunted and thought it could kick start my Halloween reading.
This book started of great and I was enjoying it. It reminded me of some Heather Graham books that I've read in the past. Nice easy reading not too taxing. I liked the mix of a romance and a ghostly element to the story.
It didn't take too long for me to start getting frustrated. There's a little boy who has a ghost friend, who obviously needs help. Emily however does come over as concerned and does involve a meduim but all she seems interested in is when is she next going to have sex. I know its a romance but there is just too much sex. I would have preferred the book to have been more on the paranormal side.
I haven't read anything by this author before so dont know her style or genre. If her other works are like this then I can easily leave them alone. It wasn't a bad read I think I was expecting something a bit more than what it was.
Than you to the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book via Netgalley.
This was a fantastic book and I was hooked from beginning to end. The ghost aspect of the story was exciting, and at times eerie and it literally gave me goosebumps.
I loved the depth and intensity of the characters emotions: the author captured them beautifully throughout.
Josiah's presence was at times chilling but it was intriguing. He makes his presence known not just through Tyler but by turnings things on in the house. I admired Emily for taking the time to help Josiah, even though she was frightened for her son's safety.
Emily and Brett's story had many challenges ahead and that's what made it interesting: their ghost is what brings their family together. My heart broke for Emily for the tough decisions she had to make, the struggles she had to face yet when she tells Brett about his son: she accepts responsibilities for her actions. I admired her so much throughout: she gave up her dreams to have her baby and gave Brett a true chance of having his come true. She doesn't resent him for not being there for her or the fact that he made his dream into reality whereby she simply got left behind.
Their relationship blossoms slowly yet beautifully as they take baby steps to resolve their past, sort out their present and overcome the challenges that threatens their future.
This was an incredible story with a nice balance of paranormal and romance. This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be my last: she's done an amazing job. There was never a dull moment and the story was nicely paced. I'm definitely adding Kathryn to my favourite author list.
After a seriously hot fortnight affair, Emily Shea and Brett Leeds knew they would both go their separate ways - Emily to study to become a vet whilst Brett going to training in the military. What neither had anticipated was that Emily would become pregnant and give birth to their son, Tyler. Four years after they last met, Brett returns to his hometown where she lives and now Emily is going to inform him of his son's existence . . . . Brett is determined to get to know his son, resenting the four years he has missed knowing about him but also starting to understand why. However there are other, possibly more worrying, concerns - like Tyler's new ghostly friend who has moved into the family home with Tyler and just what is wrong with the mother of Tyler's best friend from 'school'?
This is an enthralling story with so many threads interwoven in it making a complex but highly engaging story. The struggles of being a single Mum, the stresses of witnessing the death and injury of close friends whilst on military duty, the drama of their new joint parenthood, abusive relationships and the impact of a twelve year old ghost haunting a child all intertwine to make this superb story I have no hesitation in highly recommending. With well crafted characters, packed with angst, turmoil, danger and romance, I am so happy the author invited me to read this captivating novel - I'll certainly be looking out for other novels by her in future!
Many thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this novel. This is my honest review.
