Product Description

Synopsis

She remembered then the coach driver's description of the locals here. 'Crazy mountain folk, believe in ghosts,' he had said. 'Ha ha ha! A haunted school! That's a quaint idea. Please do show it to me. I could move in immediately...' The tiny village of Moogalloo deep in the Australian countryside has a new schoolteacher, Fanny Crowe, sent all the way from England. Unhappy twelve-year-old Richard Blackburn wonders if she is really a friendly teacher or a wicked witch. How can she sleep in the haunted hotel - the old building that caused his mother's death? Richard is not the only anxious local. The villagers believe in ghosts and don't like an outsider meddling with their past. Can Richard alone solve the mystery of Moogalloo?

A well written children's books rom Carol Drinkwater. This re release at Halloween is perfect timing. As usual Carol has given us beautifully descriptive writing I can hear the Bell birds an smell the Eucalyptus. Fanny a young English woman is determined to follow her dream and open a school in the wilds of the Australian mountains. She wants to bring education to the scattered homesteads that are dotted around the district. As an outsider she is treated with distain. The only building available to house her dream is the old Hotel which is run down and has recently been the location of a dreadful murder of a local, well respected wife of the most wealthy land owner in the area. Will the ghost of the old hotel claim another victim? Will the local parents allow their children to go to school?
