Luckily for me I found this "Dungeon & Dragons" this game is in short description is VERY simplified D&D mechanics based game. It uses 10 normal (6 side) dices with symbols instead of classic 4,6,8,10,12 and 20 dices. Also cards (weapons, spells, monsters, artifacts, ect) do not operate with standard statistics but are simplified to maximum.
This all said it have to be clear now that this game have not much common with D&D.
This game use same basic principals 4 heroes in dungeon against DM his monsters, traps and other obstacles on their quest. It uses same figures as other D&D games from WoC and therefore when you decide you like to play classic DnD you can use these miniatures. Also I like those 5 double sided tiles that can be use for future D&D adventures. It's tremendous FUN without need for hours of study to rules of D&D 4th edition . This making it IDEAL for people that want to dive in to world of Forgotten Realms & DnD without any previous knowledge of ANY RPG game what so ever!!!!!! It catches you and not let go from start.
Now to content.
4 pre-made heroes (fighter,cleric,rouge and mage)
-these are quite nicely made and after I do some painting they will be gorgeous
36 Monster figures (skeletons, ogre's, lich, goblins, etc)
-same as heroes figures also these are hi-qual made figures that are same as those for classic D&D from WoC (even they are bit more bulkier as this is ment for kids mainly)
95 'Item' cards
39 'Monster' cards
5 'Initiative' cards
5 'Reminder' cards
- all cards are nicely made and art on them is looking great, however you cannot apply them in normal D&D which make them quite useless if you plan to move forward in to D&D
10 Special Dice
also top quality but not much use for anything else than this particular game.
4 Hero boards
Same as dices but I have to give them HUGE credit for this as it's nicely illustrated and it's joy to use them :D
5 Double-sided game boards
These are as much useful as figures as you can use them for any future adventure. These boards have 11x11 floor panels and can be customised by additional double side door panels (open/close) chest panels or traps. also you have couple of tree and column combine panels (up and down part together so they have 3rd dimension.
All over this game is definitely worth buying if you want to start with D&D and actually have FUN from very beginning.
On other hand if you are D&D fun or all ready play this is probably not for you and you do better wit one of the sets from WoC.
However, the boardgame is otherwise a fun game to play with kids (I've been playing with mine since the game first came out, so they must have begun aged 8 and 11).
Like most boardgames, it does tend to degenerate into a die-rolling contest, but there is lots of scope for creating your own adventures and adding house-rules to make it more fun and more realistic.
Do that, add a lot more in the way of imagination to the creation of your home-made scenarios, and you've got a fun board game.
We played for about two and a half hours but since it was our first time we were stopping and starting to read the rules. Lots of possible dungeon layouts with a sheet for creating your own.
But help is at hand! The Dungeons and Dragons Boardgame appears to be there for the aspiring D&D enthusiast. It is a simplified version of a more complex system, encompassing the main elements of the real game.
One player adopts title of "Dungeon Master", controlling the Monsters and Traps within the Dungeon, while any other players take control of the four characters provided. There are miniatures and boards to demonstrate the action, as well as cards which illustrate items. The Dungeon Master's Manual has pre-set Adventures which can be played out in sequential order, and ample rules. To seasoned D&D veterans, the action may seem diluted and bare of roleplaying, but if it enthuses players then I see no harm in it. Perhaps a good introduction for children, although it takes some intelligence to comprehend the rules.
As a side note, I actually bought this game just to take advantage of the well-modelled plastic miniatures that accompany it. There are four Player Characters, and a horde of monsters including undead, goblins and bugbears.
