As Nigel says, a great collection of stuff from a load of unsung heroes. Choose your own classics: The Saints "This Perfect Day", Dave Gilmour's "Short & Sweet", Panama Ltd Jug Band "Round & Round"...er, the list is endless. But the enormous LP sized glossy book that comes with it is AWESOME. You must see it to believe it. Zillions of album covers, rare photos and info. Only one grumble: Why couldn't they have included the extremly rare Embryo by Pink Floyd which they did include on the old LP compilation Picnic?

This is a great compilation - it really does have virtually everything musically that you'd want from Harvest (OK except "Embryo" !!). A very very good sampler showing the growth of the label from the "underground" of Edgar Broughton to the "punk" of Wire passing through hits like "California Man" on the way. Odd bedfellows indeed !! The selling point for me though is the book that holds the CDs in place - beautifully presented and with thousands of illustrations. You do feel like holding it up to the rest of the music industry and saying "LOOK - this is how you present a label overview". Yes it's not cheap but it is a truism - you get what you pay for in this instance. Highly recommended

The tracks are good IMHO. There's a lot of under-exposed UK folk-rock here. In the original edition you get a very large box like an LP box with 5 or so CDs in it. I'm waiting for a Compact edition in a compact box at a lower price - then I'll buy.

Buy the compilation album Works by pink Floyd which used to be in grey cover (may even still be), it was an american/canadian import and should still be readily available and it also has quad mixes of brain damage and eclipse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harvest Box Set: A Fantastic Overview 8 Aug. 1999
By M. Gaines - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Anyone looking to explore the early years of progressive music need look no farther then this fine 5CD box set. Representing the years 1969-1976 this set is one of the most well put together sets attempted by a major label to put into perspective it's own history. Housed in an oversized book format, the 120 page booklet enclosed features many rare photos of the Harvest rouster as well as an extensive overview. The music inside speaks for itself with many fine moments from Kevin Ayers, Roy Harper, Sid Barrett,Barclay James Harvest, Pete Brown, ELO, The Pretty Things, Deep Purple,Babe Ruth, Gryphon and many more. Highly recomended for all those interested in the formative years of progressive music and it's evolving influance on future music, popular and otherwise.
