Harriet E.F Clay (n Knight) was born in South Africa on September 3, 1987. After 12 years at the beautiful St Mary's D.S.G in Pretoria, she attended Rhodes University where she qualified as a radio journalist and teacher.
In 2012 she moved to the UK and began teaching in earnest and found the rich diversity London offered, wonderful inspiration for her books.
You can find Harriet prowling around The National Portrait Gallery on weekends and during the week she teaches. The children in her class are her biggest assets, constantly giving her ideas for her books and motivating her to finish them!
Harriet did not always think she would become an author, she had visions of being an artist, having won the Currie Van Schalkwyk art prize in 2003,2004 and again in 2005. She had her first group exhibition at the Sandton Civic Art Gallery when she was 17.
All of her books are illustrated by her, but most of the credit goes to her pupils who have inspired many of the characters in her works!
