The pictures are still cute and funny but the words are very different from the other books we've had (Harold and the Purple Crayon, Harold's Fairy Tale). Sometimes the word choices surprised me -- it talked about being "on" a desert (which may be perfectly normal but I hadn't heard before) and the beginning is: "One night, Harold got up, made sure there was a moon so he wouldn't see things in the dark...", which I had to read a couple of times to understand.
So I assumed C.J. had been having an off-day when he wrote this but subsequently I heard from a friend that he did not write all the Harold stories, and that makes a lot of sense.
The other Harold books we read have been *lovely* -- this one was a disappointment.

I bought this for my 3-year-old because Harold and the Purple Crayon is his favorite book (and one of mine too). The story is OK, though not nearly as clever as the original. However, the first time I opened the book, the cover came completely unglued. Because the soft-cover is stiffer than the pages, it made it very difficult to read, and it obviously would not stand up to the abuse my son delivers.
I returned the book for a replacement, which Amazon makes very easy. Unfortunately, the replacement has the same issue. While it did not come completely unglued, the cover did start to separate during the first (and only) reading.
As Amazon started by selling books, I expected much higher quality products from them. This is my first bad review of an Amazon product, and it's ironic that it is for a book.
